Is a Tshirt a protest? Freedom of speech update.

I wonder how Cindy Sheehans charges will be justified.  If you follow the links,  precedent states that merely wearing a Tshirt is not considered protesting.  It should be interesting to see how this plays out in the courts. 

Side note, Cindy Sheehan was not the only one ejected from the State of the Union adress for clothing reasons, Beverly Young, a Republican Congressmans wife, was ejected for wearing a "support our soldiers" shirt, supposedly for the same reason as Sheehan.  When she argued and protested, she was told that this was "exactly how they were treating Sheehan."  But it WASN'T!  She was asked to cover it, and THEN ejected.  She was not forcibly ejected.  Or detained for four hours.  Or had any charges brought against her for it.  Read More »

State of the Union confusion- the slow erosion of our freedom of speech

The State of the Union address has long been a partisan means of rallying your fan base, whether through careful rhetoric, or dramatic protests.  The freedom of speech allows both of these means of getting attention, however the second one is being eroded away with this administrations war on freedom of speech. 

First the NSA spying fiasco, with antiwar and democratic groups on the list of suspicious organizations, then the attempts to quell protests with legitimate permits, to refuse to allow them to meet in areas the media might see and snap dramatic pictures of, and now, Cindy Sheehan has been arrested at the State of the Union address!    Read More »

Samuel Alito has been confirmed!

This is a little bit strange for a first post, but I found some of my writings from back in November on Samuel Alito, so I think its only fitting to review them now that he has been confirmed to replace Sandra O Conner. Now this is gonna be really strange of me, as I usually am uncomfy talking politics with anyone, but I'm REALLY worried.  The idea of looking for a music school in Europe is rather tempting with all the crap going on in our government right now.   Read More »
