Recently in my town a boy was almost killed at a party. Two guys at a party attacked him after supposedly he tried to kiss a twelve year old girl who lived at that house. They said he tried to kiss a twelve year old girl so they would not be charged with a hate crime. The other day out of boredom, I found myself watching MTV's latest series called Tiara Girls. These pageant girls are ridiculous! They say they are more than just pretty faces, but they aren't. One of the girls took pride in giving intellectual answers instead of prepared ones during interviews. When she was asked who was vice president, her answer was "his name is Kennedy right?!" Why does communism not work? Well for one thing- property rights. Property rights are the key to prosperity, because they encourage investment, innovation, exchange, maintenance, and economic growth. It does all these things, because private ownership of property means you have the right to bequeath it. Property rights translate into higher standards of living for all. For twenty years now a civil war has been going on in Uganda. The government has been fighting a rebel group called the Lord's Resistance Army led by Joseph Kony, a man who thinks he is God. The majority of the soldiers in the rebel army are abducted children. Most of the kids were kidnapped from their families. These abducted child soldiers engage in rape, murder, kidnappings, cannibalism and torture. Those who refuse to commit these horrors to the children are themselves raped, murdered, tortured and kept as sex slaves. This is a real problem that needs to be stopped.  Read More »

So it seems that gas prices are effecting everybody these days, and everyone has their own quick fix solution. i think we all heard about the only buying gas on a certain day of the week and just laughed. The most recent and widely spread one that I have come across is this idea about boycotting exxon/mobil and going to other places such as shell or valero. What I think is particularly interesting is that in this e-mail I received it says that this idea was suggested by an economist.  Read More »
