Polygamy in Islam

Polygamy means a system of marriage whereby one person has more than one spouse.

Polygamy can be of two types. One is polygyny where a man marries more than one woman, and the other is polyandry, where a woman marries more than one man. In Islam, limited polygyny (up till four wives) is permitted; whereas polyandry is completely prohibited.

Qur’an is the only religion on the face of the earth that allows men having up till four wives, Allah says in the Holy Qur'an:  Read More »

Islam and dating!

"Dating" as it is currently practiced in much of the world shall not exist among Muslims -- where a man and a woman (or boy/girl) are in a one-on-one intimate relationship, spending time together alone, getting to know each other in a very deep way.

A man and a woman are not allowed to be alone together, and any physical contact before marriage is forbidden. Hence, Dating is not permitted in Islam.  Read More »

Women in Islam

Islam was the most revolutionary liberalization of women's rights the civilized world has ever seen.

Unlike feminism movements, women's liberation in Islam wasn't started by women but was revealed by Allah to Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) in the seventh century. The Qur'an and the Hadith or Sunnah of the Prophet (PBUH) are the sources from which every Muslim woman derives her rights, responsibilities and duties.  Read More »

Progress ...have we?

Tagged:  •    •

Everybody seems to be talking about progressing, or one ethical issue or another? Where does it start and where does it stop?

It seems everything you try to do these goes against someone's morals or ethics. Stem cell research, have we not had thousands of discussions about that. Why cant we except the fact that there will be postive outcomes from this field.

Racism/Discrimination. It has been here since the beginning of the world. The only reason we notice it more is because everybody is now talking about it. Get over it, it will be here for the rest of your lives. Instead of talking try to see if you have ever discriminated, and ask yourself why? Was that the right thing for you to do? If you understand the concept than we will be one step closer to diminishing racism/discrimination of any sort.  Read More »

Affirmative Action (cont)

In my previous blog, I almost agreed that affimative action was sort of discrimination. Actually I am sorry I agree their for a second with you guys. But going to tech day at University of Michigan today completely changed my eyes. No, when one of the professors gave a lecture he said there were only 11% minorities in the whole university, and they like it that way. I am not exagerating, and that was verbatim. Now, you are telling me minority students get equal chances...plz....Look at the world we live in. We are more racist today, than we have ever been. Universities say they strive for diversity, when 98% of the population in the university is white. Look around you and truly see how you are treated.  Read More »

Can we change the image of the media?

Tagged:  •    •    •    •    •    •    •    •    •    •

As you read my blog you might think great another poem! No, that is not why this poem is here for. I know this might be a little longer than what most people want to read, but  I would really like to get my point across here.

i am not a pretty girl
that is not what i do
i ain't no damsel in distress
and i don't need to be rescued
so put me down punk
maybe you'd prefer a maiden fair
isn't there a kitten stuck up a tree somewhere

i am not an angry girl
but it seems like i've got everyone fooled
every time i say something they find hard to hear
they chalk it up to my anger
and never to their own fear
and imagine you're a girl
just trying to finally come clean
knowing full well they'd prefer you
were dirty and smiling

and i am sorry
i am not a maiden fair
and i am not a kitten stuck up a tree somewhere

and generally my generation
wouldn't be caught dead working for the man
and generally i agree with them
trouble is you gotta have yourself an alternate plan
and i have earned my disillusionment
i have been working all of my life
and i am a patriot
i have been fighting the good fight
and what if there are no damsels in distress
what if i knew that and i called your bluff?
don't you think every kitten figures out how to get down
whether or not you ever show up

i am not a pretty girl
i don't want to be a pretty girl
no i want to be more than a pretty girl

As a women in today's society, I am constantly amused at the image that are representing us in the media; specially women of color. We seem to have big breasts, small stomachs, and big thighs. Where are the feminist of our generation? What happened to the values that our mothers and grandmothers and the older generations have shown?  Read More »

Affirmative Action

Tagged:  •    •    •    •    •    •    •    •    •    •    •

Affirmative action has been established in order to give equal opportunities to minority students in college admission processes. In some states people have fought against this establishment.

Why? That is exactly my question. Why would you take the initiative to fight against a cause that provides equal opportunities for all.

If we look back in history, only the caucasian (sp?) race had the priviledge of going to a good school, and a college. There were many minority students that could have accomplished so much if they were only given the chance. As African American entered the world of college, their first steps into any academic establishmen have set fires in the heart of many people; who have in turn fought to keep them away from such establishments.  Read More »

SEX!!!! YES I used the three letter word.

Tagged:

The three letter word SEX is very powerful in this world. We all know sex sells, but by how much. If you look at our entertainment world today, most of it consumes of sex.

So, how long does it go on? It will only progress with time. Do we let this entertainment system run our lives? The lives of our kids? What do we do? What can we do?

Why are women always being violated in music videos and in TV shows. Rapes in colleges are covered up and the victims are the one to suffer. Why? Since when did the world decide it was ok to rape someone? When?  Read More »
