Short attention span? I think so. So far its taken me five minutes just to write two sentences. I'd like to say I'm A.D.D. but I'm not. I'd like something like an attention disorder to blame it on, but I've got nothing. And I think this is what half of America is suffering from. I think I'm going to start calling the New Millenium American ADD Syndrome. Its a bit long, but hopefully it can hold your attention. For me this "syndrome" developed when I first entered college, two years ago. I guess I've always had some what of a short attention span, but it mostly came from boredom and repition, from having the same schedule everyday. For some reason in my first semester in college my attention span got shorter. I can no longer sit through an hour long class without drawing on something, tapping on something, texting someone, playing a game on my phone, reading something non class related, or doing homework for another class. I know I'm not the only one like this. I see it everyday in school, and I'm wondering why? I remember when I signed up for this site they tipped that the posts should be kept somewhat short or most people would not bother to read it. Can we blame the internet for our shortening attention spans? There's so little time and so much to look at, why bother reading more than you have to? Can we blame this lack of focus on TV? Can we say sitcoms and dramas that come to a quick thirty minute resolution are the reason tons of kids across the country can't sit through hour long classes? Or can we blame commercials that throw all the product info you need in your face in less than fifteen seconds? Can we blame cell phones? Most people have them now, and they offer so many other things to do when you're bored. Or should we blame ourselves? It is our fault we aren't focusing. We don't have to watch TV or text message. We don't have to pay attention to the commercials or play games in class. I seriously think the only thing we can blame for the lack of an attention span is ourselves. We are the only ones who have control over our actions, and no matter how difficult it may seem, we are the only one's who make ourselves pay attention.

Short attention span? Yes

A Blog on Blogging
This is my first post, well at least on this site, and for a while I've been wondering if these things even worth it anymore. I've been blogging for about a year on xanga.com and for a while all my friends plus people I've never even met were reading it. I loved the feeling of opening my page and seeing that I had new comments. I'd post about once a week, usually about trivial stuff like what I did in band that day, or how horrible my teachers are, or how much I didn't want to go to work. Those were the post that recieved the most comments, mostly people saying how sorry they were that my teachers were mean or how crappy (am I allowed to curse on this site?) my job must be if I'm complaining about it so much. However I did post a few times about things in politics, and things that I felt actually mattered. These were the posts that got the fewest comments, most often these comments being from people I'd never even met. After a few posts like this I started wondering if people, most importantly my closests friends, even cared what I had to say. I wondered if anyone cared about abortion laws or the war in Irag. After a while I stopped posting for the most part, with an occasional blog every month or so. Was it really important anymore? Was it worth writing down if no one was going to read it? I hope so because I've realized over the past few months that I just like to write. I may not be great at it, but I'm going to do it anyways. I've realized that I really like getting comments, but it doesnt really matter as long as I'm saying what I want to say. I don't care if any one agrees with what I say, or if anyone even reads it, I'm going to write it anyways. I am not going to lie, I started this blog for the contest, I want to win because otherwise I can't study abroad in Germany, but more importantly I think this blog site will be a good outlet for me.
