Abouve is a link to an article about a taiban student going to college. Thing is, and I love this about America that anyone who can come up with the money can learn anything and everything they want to. This is not true in other counties, there one has to be brilliant to get any education, or have connections to big gov't people. One place that I know of I think one has to get A's in every class your whole grade school career to get into college. I vastly enjoy the American system better. I think that I would have, and most of my classmates would not have gotten to go to college at all.  I remember there was a time in elementary school where I wanted to know everything, the only method of learning was to go to the library. I starting reading at 2 1/2. I remember going to the library with my mother, and her just leavign me there, I was about 5. She said she was bored and going to the store. I think I might have waved when she sighed and left.   Read More »

Baby Names

Tagged:  •    •    •    •    •    •    •

Naming your child. How blessed an occasion. My parents counldn't agree on a name, but my father won and I ended up with the name RENEE JEAN PIERCE. You would think that was an ok name, it isn't immediatly apperent that the other kids could make fun of it. Or was it. Neigh Neigh, thats the sound a horse makes. I never heard them say it to my face but in the background the kids who didn't like me were using it. Unfortunaly, by high school I was "fat." 200 lbs in fact. So big as a horse did come up. I wasn't poplur though school and there wasn't really anything I could do about it. I think I stopped eating any food except when someone would know I wasn't eating. That's the only thing I could do. And since I had servre memory problems, I couldn't think my way out of the situation eighter.  Read More »

Town's being evacuated due to Mine collapsing: Unsafe Lead levels!

Tagged:  •    •    •    •    •    •    •    •    •    •    •    •
Fri, 05 May 2006 And we were worried about nucleur waste?

Two towns in Oklahoma city will soon possibly cease to exist. The area around the towns Picher and Cardin are starting to collape into the mines below the towns. Not only that but the towns are so polluted by lead that they are unsafe for human habitation. Can anybody say Erin Broccovich? Remember the movie, well nobodies deneying that this is happening. However, lead is a problem as it makes children have health problems over time and affects brain development. THis kind of problem is why the US does not want to drill for oil here. It ruins the land and opens up big holes in the earth. Just like we are draining the auqufers under the US to support our outragous use of water.  Read More »

No fuel by 2050: Electicity and Solar Power

The complete Solar house by Bruce Cassiday is a book written in 1977. Solar energy was available in 1977 the complete technolgy to have and use solar power is there. IT'S NOT WANTED THOUGH.  Even though it would reduce the expenses of every household in america, think of it, very low power bills every month. Even no power bills. That's an extra $50 or $60 dollars in your pocket every month. Plus the new gov't tax break for installing solar power.  Read More »

The American Petroleum Institute President RED CAVENEY gave a short speech on C-SPAN on the 12th of may. He said that he condemns price gouging. (Like that's going to make a difference). He said proudly that the oil industry has reduced the sulfur content in the gasoline and Diesl, the Diesl by 97%, a huge enviomental leap. He also said that only the US's poicys stand in the way of making more oil availibale for the US.  Read More »

Smithsonian....(ON DEMAND) !!!! IS TV WORTH WATCHING?

Tagged:  •    •    •    •    •    •    •    •    •    •    •    •    •

Lawrence Small the Smithsonian Institution Sercrtry announced on Friday that plans were in place to make SMITHSONIAN TV. It will be called "Smithsonian On Demand."   Apparenly the details are not ironed out, but the channel will not change any policys of the Smithsonian.

I'd like to know what the programming is going to be like. I think it would be good if they had some shows for children! The children's programming today sucks, unless they are 3 and still learning to say thank you.  Barney only goes so far. Also I've heard from other posters that Nickolodan isn't what it used to be. What happened to 3 2 1 contact and other science shows on PBS, they were replaced with adult programming, and Cartoons like Dragon Tales. A whole generation is growing up where science isn't really on televison. Not that the little poeple today would sit and watch thoose programs, its just sad. You can't learn gymnastics and tumbling from the TV anymore, they really don't learn anything from the TV except how to sit still and be polite. Thoose things are important, but what happened to getting in front of the TV and doing what they are doing. Standing up and excercising....the closes I've come to that is Excercise with Elmo, and thats on videotape.  When I have kids I want them to participate with what going on for the time they watch TV, not sit and stare like Zombies........  Read More »
