Gangs

Tagged:  •    •    •    •    •    •
My last blog entry, gave a brief summary and my  opinion on an article I had found which detailed the case against the State of California, where they want to propose an exit exam for graduating seniors.  Among the comments left, the discussion turned to the gang life of California, and that spurred me on to see what I can find.  Well, I found an interesting website, which I haven't had too much time to look at yet myself, but one article did intrigue me: Prayers from a Broken Home. (click on link to read article).  The article is a bit longer, but worth the read.

An Exit Exam for Seniors?

Tagged:  •
I was surfing around the net this morning, looking for anything interesting, when I sumbled upon this article at the CNN website entitled "Judge May Halt California's Exit Exam" (click to read the article).

The article states that the state of California has created a mandatory standardized exit exam for all students intending to graduate high school in a given year, no matter what who you are or where you live.  The seniors of 2006 would be the first class required to pass the exam to graduate, and the knowledge that there is an exam at the end of high school has caused students to study harder, learn more, and to seek help when they need it.  A public advocacy group feels that the tests are unfair and discriminating to students who don't have the opportunity to get a level of education equal to that at some other schools, and is suing the state to get the exam stopped.  A court date is scheduled for next Tuesday.  The same judge who will be judging the new case, has already judged in a previous case requeesting that special education students be allowed to take a different exam.  That case won, and the special educatin students are exempt from the exam for a year, while an alternative is created.

Gas Prices - You Think America is Expensive?

Tagged:
Hey, so it has come to my attention that gas prices in the United States are pretty high.  Thankfully, I haven't had to experience this first hand, since I am currently studying abroad in Germany for the year and don't have a license to drive.  It's a good thing too, because if you thought that the gas prices in the U.S. were bad, check out these prices:

The American Dream.  What is it?  Traditionally it's always been about growing up, getting a great job, finding the love of your life, marrying, having that beautiful house and that great family.  Sounds pretty wonderful, doesn't it?  Now, imagine please, if you will, that you have found the love of your life, and can't wait to become his/her spouse.  You get excited, tell all your family and friends that you've found the one, and everyone couldn't be happier for you.
