Niggaz With Gunz

Tagged:

Ice Cube continues to push the envelope as the host of Niggaz With Gunz, the fourth installment of executive producer Mike Johns' Listen N Learn mixtape series. The new mixtape pays tribute to controversial Civil Rights leader, Robert Franklin Williams, who authored the book Negroes With Guns, which was published in 1962. Williams (1925-1996) is best known for his militant leadership of the Civil Rights Movement in the South, where he urged Blacks to arm themselves in the name of self-defense against the Ku Klux Klan. Williams refused to be bound by the doctrine of non-violence and formed a path to end Jim Crow segregation.

Niggaz With Gunz is the first mixtape Ice Cube has ever hosted and features new and exclusive remixed music from his Laugh Now Cry Later album, set to be released on June 6, 2006. Ice Cube has courted controversy since his days with the notorious rap group NWA, and continues to take no prisoners on the mixtape with remixes of Why We Thugs, featuring new artist Black Rose from Chicago, and Chrome & Paint, with newcomer LA producer Tommy Gunz.  Read More »

Condoms in Schools

As many of you are well aware, there is an ongoing debate on whether or not condoms should be freely available to students through the school.  I'm sure that you all have your own opinions (I'd love to here them).  Here's what I think about it:

Providing condoms to students in public education programs will reduce the incidence of underage pregnancy and the spread of sexually transmitted diseases. If one accepts the premise that condoms are an effective means of prevention, it stands to reason that their distribution could have a significant impact.  Read More »

Should assisted suicide be legalised?

Assisted Suicide, also called Active Euthanasia, is currently a contentious issue in many countries. The question in the debate is this: if a terminally ill person decides that they wish to end their life, is it acceptable for others to assist them? This would normally take the form of a doctor administering a lethal injection, which would end their life painlessly. A clear distinction must be made with involuntary euthanasia, by which someone is ‘put down’ against their wishes, and which is simply murder by another name.  So should active euthanasia be legalised?  Read More »

Police suck!

I have a long history of why I hate the police.  But I'm not going to go into that now because this blog would be way too long and no one would read it (even though I'm sure not very many people are reading this anyways).  This is the story of my most recent encounter with the police.

Tuesday night I get this phone call at about 10:30 that my dad has been arrested and my car had been towed (I let him borrow my car for the night because he had a catering thing to go and no way to get there).  Anyways I ask them when I can post bond and they tell me I'll have to wait until the morning becasue they arrested him on 2 differnet charges in 2 different counties and it would take them a few hours to get the paperwork together.  So I go back to sleep, wake up (5:00 AM), get my car out of the impound lot and call up the bondsman.  He meets me at the Doraville police dept.  I pay his bond and wait for them to let him out, right?  Wrong, they proceed to tell me that he is now gonna be transferred to Gwinnett County Detention Center (which, by the way, is 2 hours away from my house) and that I would have to pay his bond there as well.  So I go.  Get there at 6:30 PM.  Cash in hand.  Thinkin I'll pay it and he'll be out in an hour or two.  I've done this before, I know how it works. When I was arrested (another story. ask me about it and I'll tell you) I was out in 45 min. But it doesn't work that way here.  They won't let me go upstairs to pay his bond until 11:45.  And then they tell me that he'll be out in 15 minutes.  wrong again!  2:45 AM they finally release him. And I don't get home until 5:00.  24 hours of my time wasted because the police have decided they wanna fuck with my time.  Read More »

Gangsta rap: Cause & Effect

Tagged:

To white dominated mass media, the controversy over gangsta rap makes great spectacle. Besides the exploitation of these issues to attract audiences, a central motivation for highlighting gangsta rap continues to be the drama of demonizing black youth culture in general.

Mainstream white culture is not concerned about black male sexism and misogyny, particularly when it is unleashed against black women and children. It is concerned when young white consumers utilize black popular culture to disrupt cultural values. Women must not be duped into supporting hurtful things under the guise of standing beside their men.  If men are betraying us through acts of male violence we need to save ourselves by resisting... Don't buy the album!  Read More »

Tribute to the Children for Necessary Change

Tagged:

When youths of African ancestry are seen constantly using the "n" word, it's because they do in public what many of us adults do in private. By overwhelmingly choosing to identify with the "n" word, our children are telling us what the primary problem is with our people. When we look in the mirror, many of us are still not comfortable with what we see or who we are.  Read More »

Boule', the oldest Black frat?

Tagged:

My boyfriend has recently joined KMT, the first Afrikan fraternity (it's really more like a brotherhood).  When I tried to research the brotherhood (to determine whether or not I would consider joining the sisterhood) this article popped up: http://daghettotymz.com/rkyvz/articles/boule%27series/boule1-3roster/boule1/boulept1.html.  I'm pretty familiar with the Divine 9 but I have never heard of Sigma Pi Phi, or Boule'.  So I'm posting this to see if any of you have ever heard of this.  Is it a legitimate frat?  Or is it a joke posted on the Internet to confuse people.  If you've got any info please let me know.  I would research it myself but I'm taking a Maymester + I'm working full-time so random, recreational research is out of the question for me.  Read More »
