Walmart is one of the worst things we could ask for in our economy.

Tagged:

Walmart's policies and operations are bad for our economy. I can not even name all of the reasons. But here are some:

Outsourcing: Many of Walmart's product come from companies within China or other nations wanting to get a buck for America's materialistic tendencies. Sure  this is good for their economies, but as far as America;s economy, it is bad for these reasons: It takes away jobs for many Americans by putting U.S. companies out of business. Many U. S. companies are unable to compete with the prices of other companies because of regulations posed in the U.S. that foriegn companies do not have to deal with. They are forced out of the marlet and many people lose their jobs, just like what happened ot Rubbermaid whose products were not the cheaper, but they were the better. The rubber used in their products rose in price, so therefore their prices rose. When it rose, Walmart said they would not sell their products unless price went back down and the only way to do so was to lower the quality of their products. Because of this, Rubbermaid lost to their competitors. Also, when one outsources, it sends U.S. dollars out of the country, and therefore causes problems wiht our currency. It also means that our import, export amounts change more toward importing more which is also horrible because it causes dependency other countries. Our relationship in trade with CHina is a bad one. OUr economy is so interwoven with theirs, that if their economy collapses, we are so dependent that we will be pulled down with them.  Read More »

Christmas and the Spirit of Christ

Tagged:  •

Christmas is no doubt one of the best times of the year. I love Christmas every year, the spirit and the times spent together. Why is this such a wonderful time of year, I ask myself? Because people think of Christ and what he did and how he gave to others. So they ,themselves because they are reminded, emulate him during this short time of year called the Christmas season.
What I wonder though is why does it take a holiday to get people to do what they ought to be doing in the first place. If all year long people behaved as if it were Christmas, then Christmas might be an ordinary holiday. Why do we have to be reminded of what is right and that we should do through a holday? This i do not understand.

Why do some American's want to in effect take away someone's free choice?

Tagged:  •

Why is it in America that more and more people want to take away certain choices for others? An example of this is the difficulty that gays have had ascertaining their rights. Even though I do not agree with it, they should be able to have the same legal rights and responsibilities as a married couple. Yet, there are those who would outlaw it althogether. It should not be a major issue in America. Also, abortion.  Read More »

Need A New President

President Bush needs to leave office for many reasons.

  1. The first and most foremost, he lied to the people of the United States many times. In order to convince the American people to go to war with Iraq he claimed that there was evidence that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction and that it aided and abeted terrorists such as Osama Bin Laden. However, all of that was a fabrication to convince the American people to enter a war that has cost many American lives. None of the terrorists who were involved in 9-11 were even from Iraq, most of them in fact had come from Saudi Arabia, even Bin Laden himself was from Saudi Arabia. Also, why would Saddam have supported them when he considered them a threat? then, he also claimed that Saddam had weapons of mass destruction when he had absolutely no evidence that he did. To this day, they have not found any.
  2. Bush is incompetent. Throughout high school and college, he recieved at best straight C's, only due to the fact that his father had been president. I want someone in the office who has better grades than I do. Also, when Bush was deciding to enter into Iraq he had advice from several good generals and historians that this was a disaster, yet he did not listen. Hee did not even consider the reason why his father had not gone to war with Iraq. Those who thought we could possibly succeed in Iraq told him he would have to install the draft and have 500,000 soldiers in our army and have an incredibly strong suportive Iraqi army, along with some of the previous government, not the heads, but the basic levels, those who knew how to run Iraq and even then, we might not be able to achieve vistory he was told. Yet, he ignored this advice and claimed we could go in and win within days. Obviously, Bush did not read Niccolo Machiavelli's letter to the prince saying that “No matter how powerful one's armies, in order to enter a country one needs the goodwill of the people”.That certainly is the case here in Iraq. Not only this, but Bush is incredibly inexperienced when it comes to foriegn affairs. As governor, he did not ever really focus on other nations or really even leave the county. So why not listen to those who are knowledgable? Bush seems to parallel Lyndon Johnson and his approach to Vietnam.
  3. Bush may not even rightly be President. In bother cases when he was elected, there were problems with the counting. In the first, there is stilldebate about how Florida voted. Then in this last election, the count ofrOhio was off more than it should have been. Electionds are usually slightly different from the polls due ot citizens changing their minds. However, this one was off more than it has ever been, nut there was no paper trail to check. If there was anmy tampering, no one will ever know. However, i find it fishy that in both elections, states that were crucial in the election had problems.
  4. Bush will not admit he is wrong ever. We all know that he has made mistakes and he has been proven wrong, but he has never admited it. He will not change, but wants to stay the course, which died only when he percieve the Republicans could lose the house if it continued.
  5. Before the election this year, he told the American people that the democrats could not be trusted and has from time to time called some of them terrorists for opposing him. Then after the election he was trying his hardest to suck up to the democrats. When he percives danger he does whatever it takes to get out off it or to prevent it.
  6. Lastly, Bush does not educate himself about the issues. I have often heard questions from reporters and such about his critics, to which he replies, he has not read that stuff and does not read it. He "does not need to because he is right."He is willfully ignorant and will not consider any other's opinons or point of views.

These are 6 reasons why he should be kicked out of office. But do not trust me, trust Bob Woodward, who has written a book about this. That's right, the man who exposed Nixon in Watergate.

Why are celebrities role models these days?

Tagged:

I have noticed a trend in almost all teenagers that their role models are celebrities. They carry pictures of them, they look up to them and treat them like Gods. What they must remember is that few people actually have any chance of becoming a celebrity and not every celebrity is necessarily a person worth admiring and each of them are human and have flaws.

Why are those who are truly worth looking upto falded in the backround? People who give up their time and money to help others they care about, average people who just want to make a difference in the world. I think they are the ones who deserve all of the attention, praise and money.

University Level Becoming something for either elite students or rich students

The costs of going to college is going on the rise. Many students such as myself, have the grades to go to a strong, brilliant , respectable university, but do not have the finacial means. My parents are not willing to help me pay for college, so I must pay for it myself, without any finacial aide from the government too, because of my parents finacial ability. So, I got a job that pays me minimum wage and is part time. Because I was unable to pay for any of the Universities I was accepted to, I went to a community college, which while it is cheap, simply does not force me to challenge myself. Without any aide, on minimum wage, how am i to pay for any more? I can not.  Read More »

Parents Taking Young Children to Rated R MOvies

I work inside a movie theatre and as such I see what people go to which movies. Lately I have been noticing a trend: parents takes very young children into R rated movies. I believe this is worng, not because all rated R movies are bad, but because there is a reason why the movies are  rated R. Children simply are not mature enough to be exposed to these movies that display crude humor, bloody war scenes, nudity and an incredible amount of cursing. When Borat came out, I thought that perhaps it could be a somewhat acceptable movie, but once many of my friends saw it and revealed to me what it contained , I was appalled.  Read More »

The War With Iraq:A War Without a Solution

The Iraq war is a war that will forever scar America’s history. It was an impossible situation from the beginning, yet the United States believed that it could come in and achieve its objectives.

The war in Iraq was a mistake, an unforgivable mistake made by the Bush Administration. The more time spent in Iraq, the more impossible a situation it becomes. In a land where the is no united people a democracy simply can not function. The United States has created a bad situation and made it worst. Before, Saddam did kill many people, however, many more civilians die now under the U.S. occupation. Also, we have destroyed their standard of living. Before they had plumbing and electricity now, they live without any possibility of this use.  Read More »
