Public: Iraq will Be Looked Back Upon as a Failure

Tagged:  •    •    •

Rasmussen polling shows that Americans don't think history will look back kindly on the War in Iraq.

For the first time ever in a Rasmussen Reports survey, a majority of Americans believe that the U.S. mission in Iraq will ultimately be judged a failure. Fifty-two percent (52%) now hold that view. Just 32% believe that, in the long run, the mission will be viewed as a success.

More than one half of Americans think history won't be kind. More than a half! Meanwhile, about a third are optimistic about how the War in Iraq will be seen.  Read More »

My Left Wing Blogger Gets Page A1 Profile in Washington Post

Today, if you subscribe to the Washington Post, you'll see a front page story about a left-wing blogger. Her name is Maryscott O'Connor, and if you've been in the liberal blogosphere for a while, you have probably heard of her blog, if not her name.

Her blog is My Left Wing, part of the, how should I say, angry Left blogosphere. The story goes into great detail about why O'Connor is angry and what she rages against. You get the feeling that she listens to a lot of Zach de la Rocha and Co.  Read More »

EPA Ordered To Release Documents on Mercuy Rule

George Bush is a master of irony.

I mean, we get the "Clear Skies Initiative" that relaxed US Enviornmental Protection Agency standards. There was the "Healthy Forest Restoration Act" that made forests less healthy by existing less ( "The Word" on The Colbert Report said that less trees mean clearer views of the sky).

Today, a judge ordered the EPA to release documents concerning their ruling on mercury. Not the first planet (Mercury) in our solar system or the late Queen singer (Freddie Mercury), but that toxic metal, mercury.

A federal magistrate in Boston ordered the US Environmental Protection Agency late yesterday to release internal documents to Massachusetts Attorney General Thomas F. Reilly about how the federal agency arrived at a controversial rule to regulate mercury emissions from power plants.  Read More »

Waste Cited in Katrina Recovery

The Washington Post has an article that says there was waste in the hasty spending of money after Hurricane Katrina.

I wrote about similar waste in a BenchWarmerJim News Roundup. This latest revelation in the WaPo says the government wasted even more money.

As the Federal Emergency Management Agency wraps up the initial phase of its temporary housing program -- ending reliance on cruise ships and hotels for people sent fleeing by the Aug. 29 storm -- the toll of false starts and missed opportunities appears likely to top $1 billion and perhaps much more, according to a series of after-action studies and Department of Homeland Security reports, including one due for release today.

Again, I said that the government was spending unwisely in September.  Read More »

Illegal Immigrants; Tax-Paying Churchgoers?

Some people say that illegal immigrants are here just to mooch off of our government.

But it turns out that millions of illegal immigrants are actually paying taxes. As one of my friends joked, "Hell, all my family members don't even pay their taxes..."

Years ago, as a tax preparer at H&R Block, John Perea noticed more Spanish-speaking clients bringing their children to the office to serve as translators.  Read More »

Tiger Woods In the Middle of Firestorm After Saying He Played Like a "Spaz"

Tagged:  •    •

I didn't think much of it.  OK, I didn't hear anything about it.  It was just a post-Masters interview, where the interviewer asked Tiger Woods how he thought he played.  Woods, who finished tied for third place, replied, "I was so in control from tee to green, the best I've played for years... But as soon as I got on the green I was a spaz."

To me, it was an innocuous statement. Something that someone can say without anyone being offended.  Read More »

Administration Knowlingly Lied About Iraqi Mobile Biological Labs

While America contemplates going into attack Iran, we have that pesky problem of Iraq.

Remember when we found those "mobile Iraqi biological labs"? I don't put them in quotations because it's a quote, but rather because they weren't really mobile Iraqi biological labs.

The big news isn't that they were really the WMDs - the big news is that the administration KNEW they weren't evidence of WMDs and decided to say they were anyways.  Read More »

Bush Approval Rating Hits New Low; Disapproval Ratings Hit New High

Yes, my friends, Bush is an unpopular president. The approval rate in every poll that has come out in the last couple of days are at or near record lows. His approval rates are in the high 30s in every poll.

But, as Atrios notes, his disapproval rate is at a whopping 60 percent. This is according to the latest Washington Post - ABC News poll.  Read More »
