answer

I always, like most of you, have endless amounts of questions. Whether I'm in class, or watching tv, or the news, or reading a book: questions, questions, questions. Usually, however, I recieve a few answers, maybe 2/3 I ask.

SO here is a new question. What are we doing about Iraq? After reading this morning's newspaper, and watching the news the answer is apparently non-existent, this regardless of how many times, or how many poeple are asking it. Why is it ok that the president this morning can answer this question: "I haven't made any decisions about troop inscreases or troop decreases, and wont until I hear from a variety of sources?? How many more soruces does he need? When are the troops going to be thought of as men, as brothers, and sisters, women, and mothers by the President, and not just by the expose's Cnn shows every Sunday about them? Why are decisions not being made? Where are our answers?  Read More »

Colbert

Tonight Steven Colbert visited Florida State University. As the guest speaker for our annual POW WOW, the homecoming pep rally of sorts, we had Mr. Colbert as the guest commedian.

Thousands of the students here watch his show; half laugh at what they think he's saying, half actually understand. Tonight, he very much tested the waters; he essentially skimmed the surface of the political mindset of FSU. What did he find out? We're divided, just like the rest of the nation. After comments joking about the President's innability to understand his jokes when they met half the students laughed, with a few claps, and the rest booed. After pointing out Charlie Christ's name is only one letter away from Christ, half laughed and clapped, and half booed. After announcing the wonders of the democrats winning congress, half laughed, and half booed. After 3 tries you could tell he understood- politics in this capitol city University is a serious, die hard issue. And when Hillary Clinton's name was brought up... oh boy..... there were claps, and yelps, and screams, and laughing, and booes, and cherring, and every other kid of cheer--good or bad-- you could imagine.  Read More »

when i buy something as important as a car, i expect a receipt.

Instead of a typical blog....Id like to see some opinions. Due to the 100 word count, ill blab for a bit first.

Can you imagine if we didn't receive receipts after all of our purchases? How would we prove we bought what we did? How could we prove it wasn't stolen, or copy cat material? We couldn't. So why do we allow accounts of electronic voting to remain receptless? Are our votes not as imporant as our cars, or our homes, our stereos, or even our groceries? I think they are. Robert Wexler thinks they are. We'll see what happens tomorrow at voting; my eyes will be on Palm Beach County, Florida.  Read More »

oh Borat, you silly Sacha Baron Cohen character.

Last night I did as the rest of teenage/college-age America did- I saw Borat. I laughed. In fact, I laughed so hard at one point I cried, but I also thought. Who would have thought that I silly movie based on a fictional foreign character could be so thought provoking? But it was. The movie itself stands for more than just the insane, way out of the normal ways of a journalist from Kazakstan. It serves as a very harsh, but very funny, hour and a half long joke on Americans.  Read More »

theyre discussing the issues...just not the ones that matter

The "progressive principle" box up there (^) asked me to chose a topic that's relevant. One of the choices was progressive government. I see a slight problem with that choice. When's the last time you noticed this so called progressive government?

cricket...cricket...

That's right folks, it doesn't exist. Progession is a thing of the past, like sewing machines, vcr's, nintendo, and hair scrunchies (one can only hope that trend doesn't come back). Progession has gone out of style. Instead, we have turned to new, less effective kinds of government. We've turned to ones that enjoy talking about issues that don't effective the everyday citizen in any significant way, in hopes of avoiding the topics that do. Our education system is failing. In Florida, 4th graders can't read. In our high schools 1/3 of students aren't graduating! Millions still don't have healthcare. I fear for the life of my little brother who wants to join the military. My friends are in Afganistan as Marine reserves, they're scared out of their minds. I cant afford to pay for tuition, and I go to a state school!  Read More »

You just know.

I distinctly remember 1st grade. Not because I loved my teacher, or the recess. Not because I wish I still got an hour for lunch, art time, and music, but because I did more learning that single year, than any other year since. It sounds silly- I know - let me explain.

In the 1st grade, I finally figured out the perfect way to remember my left from my right. The 'hold your thumb, and index finger in the air deal just didn't work for me. How did I remember? Imagine this. On the left side of the room was a big picture of President Clinton, and on the right, a big picture of Vice President Gore. And there you have it, ladies and gentlemen, I learned my right from my left. I never forgot that moment. It was then that I knew where I was headed for the rest of my life. I was moving, full speed ahead, into the wonderful world of politics.  Read More »
