This is how often, across America, a woman is raped.
   
    Thousands of women are raped yearly in this country. Out of these thousands of cases, only 37% are reported to authorities, commonly because of feelings of fear, fault, or a need to keep a reputation. Obviously, those who are caught by authorities usually face severe sentences from our government. When is enough enough? Life in jail? The death sentence? These usually range from case to case, of course, but I'm going to ask a question outside of what you might expect:

Can a rapist be forgiven?

Take this example:
 There once was a man named Ray. When Ray was 23 years old, he attacked a woman on the street, when she was on the way home from the grocery store. Her name was Shelly. He raped her, and fled the scene. Ray was caught with help from Shelly and local witnesses. He pleaded guilty, and was sentenced to 30 years in jail.
    During his sentence, Ray claims to have felt a change inside of himself. Having hours and hours everyday to contemplate his mistakes, Ray felt horribly guilty for what he had done. One of his cellmates gave Ray a bible, and Ray started to read it. After a few years, Ray accepted Christianity, and decided that he wanted to live an honest, respectful life for the rest of his time on earth.
    Once he was released, Ray felt like a new man. Ray moved to a new city, and joined a Christian church there, becoming fully active in the congregation. Ray still felt separated from the other church members, but he refrained from sharing his past, for fear of rejection. Because of this, Ray kept quiet. He helped more and more in the Church, and by the age of 60, the pastor passed away, and the church agreed that Ray would be his successor.
