Invisible Children

In Northern Uganda, the streets are filled with blood. Children are forced to be soldiers, killing relentlessly for the sake of survival. This war has been going on for more than 20 years. America claims to be this powerful, compassionate country. We try to be the heroes, helping out the underdog. But what about Africa?

The ocean flows blue like the sky.
It interrupts my tears.
The crashing of the waves electrify
My soul, giving it life
The day is better... I feel I can try

The stars shine bright. Reflected
In the midnight blue of the sea
They calm my heart.
The beat slows down. I feel a chill
I live without being rejected

Laurina: a Noir Sketch

This is a story I wrote for my English final last semester. This is my first attempt at writing Noir/Black literature and was surprisingly enjoyable!

Laurina
Five days. Six nights. Obsession.
The drunken frenzy. The shy smile. The short dress.
I’m not sure if I loved her, or the idea of her. A trophy wife for the empty case. A tender kiss for the empty life.
