I went to the State Theatre yesterday, but was not there to watch a movie. Rather, I was there to watch short films, inspirational speakers, and a few others things from around the world. Pangea Day (visit the website at http://www.pangeaday.org for a recap) brought so many things to my attention. The main theme was cultural universals - things present in all cultures.
I work with children, and so naturally bacteria and other various types of scum are surrounding me at any given moment. I see colds, the flu, and other diseases make their wave through the school. And as a result, my hands are continuously dry from all the hand washing (it really does work).
We have all become victims of inflation in recent days. Prices are skyrocketing, and people are only losing jobs. The government has made their attempt to fix things, and we will see how that goes (not sure if I think it's viable).
It's April 12 here in Northern Michigan....and it's snowing. Now, this is not completely abnormal, as our weather jumps around all the time (i.e.: you know your from michigan if its normal to use the AC and heat in the same day). However, it does raise the question: is winter only going to keep getting longer? Is our weather only going to become more unpredictable?
I’m about to discuss a very serious topic, one in which makes me sick to my stomach. The truth that is to come is frightening, disillusioning, and shaming. It is not an urban legend, nor is it left wing politics. It is the truth of our government, a very frank truth, of which many are ignorant.
As my boyfriend and I were eating breakfast at a restaurant not too long ago, there sat an old couple at the table next to us. As we were leaving, I took a moment to glance at them - the clothes they were wearing, the conversation they were engaged in. I have always been fascinated by the places life can take an individual, and how each person’s life is different.
According to dictionary.com, progress can be defined as "a movement toward a goal or to a further or higher stage," or as "growth or development; continuous improvement." This is all quite true, but what does this mean for us, as an emerging generation?
