Well I looked for a job off and on since freshman year- I’m a senior now. Still no job. (needless to say in the 3.5 years it's been more off than on in the search.) But the only reason to get a job is money. Now, going to an urban public school, there are the poor kids with the $100 jeans. (drug dealers exist). But I’ve tapped into the suburban money pool that i've ignored for so long: Baby sitting! Sure, you can't really use it as a reference for jobs and stuff, but you can rake it in with little to no active work. I sat there doing my homework for a few hours and made $56 in one night. Teens can ask anywhere from $7-10 or up. It really is a job that most people ignore as an option. So if you're one of those people who just can't seem to get a job, there are always young mothers in need of a girls night out. take advantage of it!

Abortions and Eating Meat
While everyone is talking about their position on abortion, I thought I should take the time to stomp out a few ideas that are circulating. One would be the thought that people who are pro-choice AND vegetarian are hypocrites. Well, surprise surprise, I'm pro-choice and vegan. So are you wondering why it's okay in my mind to kill a fetus and not a cow? I hope not, but i know there are people out there who have such silly ideas.

Campaign Cookie
Okay, so I thought all the campaign commercials were annoying in their magnitude, but in Austin, Texas, they've taken it to a whole new level. Asian food restaurants are giving out fortune cookies with campaign messages inside. The cookies are promoting a bond proposal which would fund cultural facilities.
It starts as early as August for the november elections. The pins, the billboards, the events for supporters. The signs in people's windows and yards. And those annoying adds with bad actors. Vote this vote that. I can hear one behind me right now. I can't count how many people in doctors jackets I've seen promoting or trashing propositions. I honestly didn't expect it to get any worse. The politicians have already put their message in in our homes. Now they've gotten it into our meals. I wonder if fortune cookies are the next big advertising tool. It would be a clever idea for a high school election for home coming queen... maybe; but using cookies to get the vote for $31.5 million is absurd. Politicians need to take the campaigning down a notch.

charging bikes?
While in my environmental science class today, we went to the golden gate bridge to monitor traffic. We counted how many cars carried multiple people, single people, mass transit, motorcycles, semi trucks, bicyclists, and walkers in a six minute period. We got an average of 78 people driving alone and only 20 people carpooling. There were 6 people bicycling. I would've thought that number would be higher. I appreciate them though; the people who bike to where they're going. While discussing these stats with my teacher, she mentioned that the Golden Gate Bridge was going to start charging bicyclists to go across the bridge. Insanity! It's hard enough to get a car that runs on bio-diesel or vegetable oil, but if you start charging to bike on the bridge, well what's left? Is walking next on their list? Unfortunately, bicycling numbers will probably go way down after they start charging, and driving numbers up. San Francisco has such beautiful paths to walk or bike on and incredibly great public transportation. Why don't more people take advantage of all of it? I honestly hope they change their mind on charging bicyclists, but if they don't, they should at least give discounts to people with low emission cars.
