Do Those Whiney Emos Have A Point After All?

There are few things more annoying to me than people who openly mutilate themselves because they say that it helps with all their "inner pain". First of all, since when has a 14-year-old's life been so very hard thzt s/he just can't take it anymore? I was 14 once, and I didn't think it was all that bad. Sure, things don't always wrok out the way you want; that's a part of life. That's no license to abuse one's body. I think that's just weakness and a mark of
(as per my other blog) self esteem uber alis. They're cowards. More importantly, they do it for the attention, so everyone around them feels sorry for them since they clearly have such a tough life. As proof, consider the fact that none of these people would ever seriously consider suicide; that's too permanent. They don't even cut deeply at all usually; it looks like scratching. However, it's unfortunately also true that some of them actually believe that of which they've convinced themselves: that they do actually have to do that to feel better about themselves and their lives.

Skinny v. Curvy Girls

Tagged:  •    •    •    •    •    •    •

Okay, so all women should be happy with their body types, right? Right. But have you ever noticed that no one is?

I don't mean necessarily that women always complain about their figures (stereotype, I know, but it's true in a vast majority of cases). That, of course, is additional proof, but I mean that they devalue other body types in order to feel better about their own. Think about it. My guess is, you're thinking of skinny girls who always make fun of larger girls. While this is true, it's comparatively rare to the reverse.

Rap: Objectifying Women?

People will not stop debating this whole rap music thing. I have to say I listen to rap occasionally. On the other hand, I do think there's a certain degree of truth to the idea that it degrades women.

 Let's get an example here:
"Hey ladies, drop it down, just wanna see you touch the ground
Don't be shy, girl, go bonanza
Shake ya body like a bellydancer
........
The way you got that body bendin
Ass like that, girl you gotta be kiddin" - Akon, "Bellydancer"

Hurray for Superman

I have to say that I've had to reconsider my previous statement that there is no good media left for our children. I've been looking further into it lately, and I've discovered that there are still, if very limited, good influences within the media for children.

The main one that I want to talk about, as the title suggests, is Superman. I have a three year old brother, and ever since he saw the new Superman movie with my father he's worn nothing but underwear and a cape, haha. But watching him playing, and hearing him talk about Superman is almost inspirational. It certainly gives me hope for the future.

Birth Control Is Ruining Our World

Tagged:  •    •    •    •

One of the many (but also one of the most serious) problems with modern American society: artificial birth control. There are two problems with this: the physical and the moral. I will address the latter first.

Using birth control seriously undermines the original, natural, and logical purpose of sex: reproduction. By using birth control, one is wuite literally playing God, and deciding whether or not another's life is worth being created. No one is saying that people have to have babies all the time to be a moral person, and I am certainly not saying that. But you shouldn't be using artificial birth control to achieve that. If it is absolutely impossible for a MARRIED COUPLE to feasibly hve a child, then use natural methods. As for unmarried couples or strangers, see the abortion argument: you shouldn't be sharing something special with soemone that you obviously don't think is all that special. It just doesn't make sense.

The 90's -- The Last Worthwhile Era

Tagged:  •

Have you ever seriously thought about the 90's? I assume that most of you, like me, grew up in the 90's. Fond childhood memories aside, I genuinely believe that many of the principles which have always been a part of human history saw their final days in the 90's.

I can obviously only share what it was like growing up as a girl in the 90's, but having several brothers I think I have a pretty good idea of what it was like for boys.

Beauty

"Beauty is only skin deep." -- Old saying

"True beauty is on the inside." -- Old saying

"That's just something ugly people say." -- Liar Liar

I wish people would understand this: there is nothing at all wrong with being beautiful. Some people are born with good looks, others not. But, if you will note in today's society, beautiful people are vilified for "the way God made them". No one bothers ugly people, and tells them that they need to become more beautiful, no matter what you might think.
