Vote or Loaf!

I just got back from Washington D.C. about 4 hours ago, and I have to say that I loved every second of it. Being from Arizona, you have to undrstand that the heat and the traffic get to you after a while. I'm not going to lie, traffic was pretty hectic in D.C. but the metro does wonders. I went to go visit a friend who goes to GWU, and I was sceptical at first. I had never been to D.C. and, honestly, had never wanted to before.

Oh How They Cry-- Oh How They Fight

Oh Republicans! How we have come so far since the election of 2004 with blowing comments out of porportion. To those who do not watch or read the news (I rarely do because most of my free-time is spent playing the new Tiger Woods video game-- but when I do its not fuin to watch), John  Kerry made a "punch-line" about uneducated students going to Iraq, and without education our children will also end up in Iraq.

Give me liberty, or--- well, give me SOMETHING

I've been notified lately that I was to be chosen to do jury duty. Now, I don't know about you guys, but Jury duty has always been one of my favorite things to hear about when I was younger. All the stories of people crying and complaining about civil suits and blah-blah-blah-blah-blah! I HATE jury duty! Although I've never done it before, It raises concern in my head only because of this one issue: while sitting there for a good 3 hours, it turns out at the end that they MAY not need you. Waste my TIME why don't you? Let's say that the case was on a guy who smoked pot and is contesting that his jail-time is too tough. The "unbiased" jury (which is a load of *____* because who from the 70's+ hasn't been around or tried pot?), is supposed to not be suaded in any one way in the beginning. Now, I tell them "Yes, Mr. Justice of the Peace Sir. I have done pot before". By saying that I'm already eliminated. HOWEVER! They keep you until they can release everyone else. Fun, huh? It's a problem in society that irks me like no other: the fear of being singled out. I could care less that the guy next to me happens to like Pina Coladas. I, personally, like being caught in the rain. It doesn't mean that I have to judge him because of his values. I bring up differences. For example: "Hey, Mr. Pina Colada man, I understand that you don't like yoga that much. Why is that? Not flexible enough? Me? I like making love at midnight, it sets me on the right mood for the next day." Sorry this is a rant I just REAAALLLY don't want to go... Maybe I'll come down with a case of SARS and have to go home for the day.

Sex and Love and... ew

I'm being plagued today. Not by any kind of disease but by my own close friends. What is it that they are doing to me, you ask, that plagues me so much? Their relationships. I have never been one for lovy-dovy muck (in fact all my exes would agree that my least favorite part of a relationship is the PDA). No, instead my ideal relationship is one of sitting around, reading my newspaper, listening to my new Stan Getz album (by the way if you've never heard Stan Getz-- listen to him IMMEDIATELY), and maybe, JUST maybe, settle for a round of Scrabble.

Have you ever lived alone? I mean LIVED alone? I do. I live in a small studio apartment in Downtown Phoenix that fits my bed, a chair, a small table, and my dog kennel--- which is empty (I was hungry). I don't have a T.V. (probably the biggest mistake of my life) or a fridge. Instead I sit around. Alot! Now I don't find any shame in being a homebug. In fact I'm pretty proud of it. Before when I lived with my parents I was a "C" student.

The "Race" of Race

Tagged:  •

I've been thinking alot about the subject of race. Why is it that we, as Americans, put so much effort, time, and thought into the race for a p.c. society? Now, don't get me wrong. I think it's great that we all believe in an equal and fair society, but there comes a point in time when we start pushing so much for minority rights that we unintenionally push the majority out of the way. For all intents and purposes this action is completely undemocratic. For example, Affirmative Action. Speaking as an Arab, I understand the reasons for affirmative action. I understand that there is a need for a mixed campus, and that there is a need for a sense of "color-blindness" on campus.  But if the need turns into a battle between the more deserving and less deserving, it becomes a problem in my eyes. I don't want to walk around my campus feeling that just because I happen to be tan (and exquisitely tan, at that) I am an affirmative action student, that I am less than par but happen to be dark. Now through this action of weeding out the dark students from the light students, there is more of an intention of completely throwing out whites just because they are white. Now is this or is this not racism in the form of politics? It just happens to be towards the majority this time.
