My government teacher has been my government teacher (on different levels) for three years now, and just about every day she lets us know that our age group -- high school and college students -- is one of the least likely age groups to vote. It's on the news all the time, too...

Getting rid of honors classes...
I know there are several posts about this already, but I thought I'd add in my two cents. The things I've seen in my school district since the passing of this mandate aren't at all to my liking. Luckily I was able to get through most of my high school career before the real restrictions hit.

So... you don't get ANYTHING?
"So... you don't get ANYTHING?" they ask me as I embark on the adventure of a lifetime: writing 50,000 words in 30 days. It's called National Novel Writing Month (nanowrimo.org), and it happens in November.

Women's Colleges
In the fall I will be attending Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia. It's an all women's college known for its creative writing program. I can't wait; I think it's going to be amazing. I currently attend a coed high school, so the all women's environment is going to be a change, but it's a change I'm looking forward to.

Laptops in Schools
The school budgets in Michigan (and other states, I'm sure) are... terrible. I believe a simple solution exists that will allow schools to cut back on potentially unnecessary supplies: requiring each student to use a laptop computer for class work and homework.

Caucus / Primary Voting
I was watching Channel One at the beginning of the year (for those of you who haven't heard of it, it's a news program directed at teenagers often shown in middle and high schools). They reported that 17 year olds are able to vote in the Iowa caucus. I think that's what it was. Anyway, how awesome is that? Why is it that I'm not able to vote in my state's primary?

Don't tell me...
...what is and isn't a relationship. Don't tell me what can and can't be love. Don't tell me that something can't be done because it isn't "normal." Don't make absolute judgments on something based on your personal experiences or lack of experience, and nothing else.
Statement: "Long distance relationships never work."
