Twenty credit hours is the maximum that I can take per semester, and I am taking twenty right now (and next semester as well). However, many of my fellow freshman theatre majors are taking 20, and auditing three classes. Yikes. I'm all for academic achievement, but at the same time, many of my classmates are literally studying themselves sick.

My Vice: Magazines
Some people smoke. Some people drink alcohol. Some might take recreational drugs. others might be conniseurs of all things fried in butter. Everyone has their own different vices. Mine is a craving of expensive magazines.

The one nice thing about my hometown
The week of Thanksgiving was the first time that I was home since I was shipped off to college, and it was interesting to see how my parents have changed in my abscence. They have returned to their hippie roots (not that that's a bad thing, hippies are for the most part, fairly cool. Except hippies from Ann Arbor--they are downright scary).

Most Massive Woman Wins update
Perviously, I blogged about seeing a great play called "The Most Massive Woman Wins". Here's an interesting postscript: Another theatre major friend of mine went ot see the performance with her parents (she's originally from Columbia, so she lives with them). However, they were not at all pleased with the language used in the play (there are a few swear words, and plenty of references to sex and sexuality). She said that she was lectured for almost an hour by her parents, who said that she shoud'nt attend or be cast in plays that are so "unchristian". Someone asked her what would've happened if she had been cast in it. After a good deal of thought, she said "They would probably kick me out out of the house."

Topic of the Week: Southern Stereotypes
in spring of 2005, I spent a week in Southern Mississippi. One of the most interesting things that i observed was the use of convict labor in construction and janitorial jobs. This was used in order ot save businesses money, since the (mostly racial minority) convicts were paid very little, if at all.

What "Safe Zone"?
Back in October, Stephens celebrated "National Coming Out Day". Along with passing out rainbow ribbons and literature, students passed out signs that read "STEPHENS COLLEGE SAFE ZONE", with a pink triangle on them. Practically every colege office except the bookstore put one on their door, which marked them as safe places that students could go to talk sexual identity and be treated fairly.

What is Art?
If I ever had the time or money to visit England, my first stop would probably be the Saatchi Gallery. Charles Saatchi was known for collecting outrageous and shocking art. He also was one of the early supporters of Damian Hirst, of "lets lock this dead animal in formaldehyde" fame.

College Visit Time!
Since I'm a Stephens Ambassador, I get to give tours, host lunches, and host students overnight. the Admissions Office creates an itinerary of activities for the student depending on what they want. Listening to (hopefully) future attendees of Stephens has reminded me of my own experiences last year.
