Tagged:  •    •    •    •    •    •

Think back . . . before the "War for the Whitehouse", before "World of Warcraft", before the "War on Terror" . . . there was the "War on Drugs", that wonderful incredible thing that was supposed to get crack off the streets, end poverty, and make America a magical place to be.

Rush Limbaugh really makes me angry. And he should make you angry too.

So I've never been Rush Limbaugh's biggest fan. Unfortunately I grew up hearing a lot of him, because the town I lived in seemed to have their radio dials communally tuned to his show.

Latin America Rant Part One: Cuba

Tagged:  •    •    •    •    •

So here's the thing. I spend a lot of time studying Latin America. As such, there are certain issues I, and others like me, get very passionate and angry about. These include:
1) NAFTA
2) The IMF
3) Human Rights Violations
4) Race and gender
5) Immigration policies
6) The War on Drugs
7) The War on Terror
8) the difference between communism and socialism

I've wanted to be a human rights activist my entire life, but it's a hard position to maintain. I'm of the opinion that most of us activists (or wannabes, for now) get very passionate about injustice of any sort, unnecessary conflict, physical and sexual mutilation, exploitation, poverty, and starvation, etc.

Is Controversy Ethical?

Tagged:  •    •    •    •

I just tried to argue effectively for the purpose of rallies like Take Back the Night. Now I'm going to do a little more musing about sexual assault awareness, especially advertising. And I'm going to start by talking about Eliot Spitzer.

Anniversaries are funny sorts of things.

Exactly a year ago, April 7, 2008, I was sitting at home. I was away from school for the weekend; it was my first Easter at college, and looks to have been my last as a preacher's daughter. It was also the day my cat died. We'd had her for fourteen years, and she was my constant, shedding companion through every significant life-moment since I was four.
