Workaholism

Tagged:  •

So once again, I am spouting the same anti-American message. I hope my parents never read this:

In Spanish class today, I read this article in the newspaper about people being workaholics and not looking for boyfriends/girlfriends because of their work. I don't exactly consider their statistics to be that credible (and besides, I've heard a lot of surveys to be seriously flawed so that their statistics cause unnessecary concern in the naive), but the overall message (which I've heard elsewhere as well) seemed disturbing to me: that people these days are so boring. There are a LOT of workaholics in my school, and it's got me concerned that America will turn into a milder China.   Read More »

Hypothesis about colitis

Tagged:  •

I don't know a lot about biology, and am too lazy to do research, so I thought I would ask other people to do it for me. Just kidding. But I don't know a lot about this, so if anyone happens to know anything about biology, maybe you could comment about how wrong I probably am.

So I have this hypothesis that colitis (I am not even sure what that is anymore, but I used to know it to be characterized by chronic diarhea) is caused by fat molecules getting lodged in protein channels of the large intestine. Protein channels being what transport materials between cells? (I don't even know where protein channels are exactly in one's body), but if they are in the lining of the colon, then maybe one's colon would have a hard time getting rid of excess water if the protein channels were blocked.  Read More »

Thought about Global Warming

Tagged:  •

Not sure how this is supposed to inspire hope or promote change, but when I see a car driving down the road spewing a cloud of exhaust, and think of how many cars are on the road, it is not hard to believe global warming.

Commericals and Drugs

Tagged:

Has anyone besides me noticed weird commercials that seem to promote drugs like acid? It's really strange. I'm just sitting there watching TV or waiting for a movie to start, and then Red Bull, MMs, or Lunesta come on, creeping me out.

The SAT drug trip

Tagged:  •

Well, I took the SAT today for the second time, and I found it interesting on a vast number of levels.

When I came in, I was sort of excited and stuff, because I got to leave my house.

Then I started this thing, and it was WEIIIIIIRD. The essay part was great (thanks to this site)  but at the end, the PENCILS DOWN comment of the teacher cut off an important word that would end my final sentence, a word I needed to write down becuase if this word wasn't there, it would change the meaning of the sentence and I would sound crazy.  Read More »

Discussions about the Iraq War Are Overrated

Tagged:

Why does everyone keep talking about the war in Iraq?

I know it is a controversial topic, but people should be a lot more disturbed by the fact that many of them could be subtely poisoned by the foods they eat or the water they drink, or the medicine they take. I mean, maybe it's okay to be poisoned by your medicine, but you should at least KNOW about the dangers.  Read More »

PETA annoys me

I'm not really involved in the animal rights debate, because there are different types of animal testing and some are worse than others; but PETA is annoying. I was looking up pictures of rabbits once, and saw some of their sites, and they were all like, "Horrible, terrible torture of animals". I don't think saying words like "horrible" and "terrible" a million times really convey a strong emotional picture. It just makes one feel that they are overexaggerating. Sort of like when we had debates in Biology class and one side showed a video of Bambi.  Read More »

Right to Die

Tagged:  •

I don't believe that hospitals should be allowed to kill people, becuase then it seems as if someone might kill someone else without their wanting to die, and fake their signature on the form or whatever there will be.

Nowadays, hospital can't just kill people because there would be big law-suits, but if there was a "right to die", they might be able to. That sounds like a novel I should write.  Read More »
