FORUMS! I know on the scholarship front we don't get points there, but it's important! There are all these forums set up for people to debate in about the supposed "hot topics" of the next election yet they are being totally ignored!

Kudos to NBC for finally breaking tradition and moving into the digital arena and past the old antiquated system. NBC is not participating in the dog and pony show called the upfronts this year where they show all their shows and advertisers bet on which shows they believe will make it. This was necessary back in the day.

In this very PC world it seems to be out of vogue to have opinions. To voice a choice or an idea is considered rude or not polite. Progress isn't made when we go with the status quo. If Newton or Einstein had said "good enough, I don't want to offend the scientists before me", where would we be today?

It used to be the family unit grew up with the idea that we would someday take care of our parents the way they took care of us. It today's economy it was always important to plan for one's own future and plan for retirement. Now, we have 70 and 80 year olds who are trying to make their money last until the end of their time, which could be 20 years or more.

Another holiday turned into a commercial venture for the enjoyment of the masses....is this progress?

I just read a blog on gay marriage which inspired me to write about the change in marriage over the years. As a straight person I feel it is a bit odd to weigh in on this issue but yet I believe it is my place in that the majority often have to speak up for the minority.

I hope the recent move by President Nicolas Sarkozy is taken as seriously as it should be by all the countries of the world. He announced he will be reducing the nuclear warheads in his country to below a total count of 300. Less than 1/2 of what France had during the height of the Cold War. He also disclosed none of their weapons are aimed at any country in particular.

In today's society everything is about more, faster, easier making these ideas synonymous with progress but I am not convinced this is the true definition of progress. We have watched the family unit fall apart in recent years. We have watched people drift further and further apart lacking intimacy and understanding despite having a constant barrage of information and ways to communicate.
