The Tainted Patriotism of the Military.

Okay. .

So this is going to be hard for me to say. Because it's always been one of those things in the back of my head, one of those notions that doesn't churn - but pops up - and surprises you in such a way you think, "I can't believe I just thought that!" Here's what's been going through my head:

I've had friends and family in the military service, and some that have such a sense of pride as to what they do and a love for the United States of America and what that stands for, that you can just see it radiates, emits a certain aura that only a dedicated serviceperson could feel.

The tube and the continental divide: Africa and Us.

As a political science major who regularly focuses on the developments in Africa, I've been semi-addicted to the New York Times website reading the blogs of the winners of the "Win-A-Trip" contest, where the winner gets to travel to Africa with (awesome) writer Nick Kristof. This year two people were chosen, and their blogs have brought a new light to a few of the situations African countries are in, including prolific spots like Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Of course Jesus spoke English!

My friend told me recently he was in the grocery store and he heard two men having a rather heated discussion about whether or not their children should have to learn foreign language in school. My friend said that at one point, the man arguing against foreign language education said to the other, "If English is good enough for Jesus, it's good enough for my son."

In Entertainment We Trust?

So recently, I noticed I've developed a thing for Law and Order: Criminal Intent. Although I can't trace the origins of my hunger for "law" with a side dish of "order", I'm guessing I got involved and started to enjoy it because - let's face it  - some form of Law and Order is on all the time. You are basically GUARANTEED some L&O therapy probably 6 or more times a day (if you really want it). Well, one particular night, I'm pumped, I'm done with my work, and it's time for some CI. Now I honestly have to say that every now and then CI irks me. It's the lead guy. I'm not sure what it is - he just seems to always know a little too much about the most obscure things (really, THE MOST obscure). I'm thinking of asking him over to play some CLUE - I think he would know the murderer, the weapon, and the room just by looking at the box.
