Okay we've all heard about that n-word and all of the controversy that comes when non-African Americans use that word. But is the n-word really that bad? I know that at one time in history this word was meant in a negative and degrading way, but in today's world and society is the word really so horrible?
Is it correct to call someone of African decent an African-America or is it more correct to call them black?
Is it correct to call someone of Mexican decent a Mexican-American or is hispanic the right term?
Is it to people of native decent Indians or should it be Native Americans?
What is the correct term? Or is there evn a correct term?
Why be ghetto? Why would a person choose to have that personality?
In my sociology class last week we were talking about stereotypes and what is seen as stereotypical for different races. When we got to the category African-Americans one of the first words that came up was ghetto. The person that said this went on to say that alot of black females have created the stereotype that black girls are ghetto.
I'm sure that we have all heard of the "American Dream", but I have a question (or five) for everyone:
What exactly is the American Dream?
Has this dream ever really been attainable?
Does it still exist?
Has this dream changed?
How many Americans really live the American dream?
Okay, I know that most (or many) girls have been called a ho or some other degrading or disrespectful name at some point in time. But what really makes a girl a ho? Why do so many guys find the need to call girls hoes? Why are the words ho and b**ch in so many songs?
Do not, I repeat, Do NOT, in th '08 presidential election, vote for candidate just because that person, is a woman, or is African-American, or is a part of a certain group!
I never really thought about this until this past weekend when I was watching the movie 'Stomp the Yard'. The uncle of the main character sees his nephew looking out of the window of their truck. It is the main charcter's first day at Truth University and the main character looks a little intimidated by the students he sees, his uncle says to him "Don't worry about them, they're getting the same education you are getting". That comment made me think, are college students really all getting the same education?
Someone please tell me what is so great about myspace. Why do so many people seem soooo addicted to the cybersite of myspace? Oooo... you can post pictues, have a profile of yourself, meet new people...SO WHAT!?!
