How should we be run?

I have been a libertarian since I was about 12 years old, because even at that age I could tell the virtue of individuals making their own choices and deciding what is best for them personally. It bothers me that even to this day there are still people in our country and around the world who believe that the government knows how to best serve our needs and how to best spend our money.  Read More »

Krugman

I could start this blog with a long winded declaration of what Paul Krugman has done, but I assume that most people have at least heard the rhetoric that he spews. For the longest time, I have heard that the Nobel Prize in all of its forms is a prize that shows the accomplishments of those who are the leaders of their fields.  Read More »

My ego's like my stomach.

As Tim Kasher wrote, "My ego's like my stomach, it keeps shitting what I feed it", and lately no matter what news coverage I look at I feel like I might need to do just that. In an era where we as a country and a society are "free", nothing seems further from the truth. Turning on the radio leads to the knowledge that supposedly we can quantify people in any number of ways.  Read More »

Government at LARGE!

I am a libertarian free market amateur economist, which will become clear either now, or within future blogs. I call myself an amateur in the sense that I have not yet attained a Bachelors, Masters or PhD in economics, although I am in pursuit of all three.  Read More »

Education

One thing that is often misinterpreted is that certain institutions get their prestige because of what they produce. Although this has at times in the past been true, it is not to be automatically assumed at this point in American history. Many of the United States best known universities are not prestigious on current accomplishments alone.  Read More »

Success

What is the one thing that nearly every person tries to accomplish with their life?  If you were to ask 100 Americans what their ultimate goal in life was, a very high number of them would likely say that they wanted to be successful.  Success is measured in many different ways for many different people.  Some people measure success by money made, while others judge it by other means.  One thing I have noticed among many Americans today is the acceptance of someones "best".  What the hell does that mean?  "I tried my hardest", or "I did my best", are phrases that are all too common in today's society.  They inspire our youth to do "their best" instead of allowing them to achieve their goals.  Instead of a person striving to get a house, they do "their best" and can only rent a condominium.  Instead of a child working until they get a 4.0 GPA, they "do their best" and pull off a 3.6.  The total encompassment and acceptance of failure is intended to serve one purpose, and that is to not make anybody feel inferior to anyone else.  We work so hard at trying to make everyone feel welcome in every situation, that many people forget what their true goals are.  Goals are no longer we strive for until we accomplish, but are now something we "shoot" for and hope to get close to.  If one does not reach their goal, they do not continue trying until they do reach the goal, but are just proud of how close they got to it.  Read More »

Personal Choice/Attacks on It

Every day newspapers come out with articles meant to inspire, articles that are supposed to make people think about the things that are going on in the world around them.  These articles, along with the television shows with the same aim, the internet sites along the same lines, and the other media outlets all have the same goal.  These media outlets all have their own opinion, which is a wonderful effect of allowing people to be themselves.  These outlets also have a common theme of letting people know the authors opinion on the subject of their choosing.  These articles are the basis of the freedom of every American citizen to express their opinion and their gained knowledge at their discretion. The irony in these articles is that they generally are propagandized in one direction or another.  If it is an abortion article, the author explains why or why not we should allow or disallow abortion, and tries to support it logically.  If the subject is minimum wage, the author tries to explain how raising minimum wage will benefit the workers, or the exact opposite.  I posted a blog on that same subject, so if you are bored you can read it.  Read More »
