Alright, so we're just over a year away from the Presidential elections and it seems that (from what I've seen, at least) it pretty much has already been narrowed down to four people (2 for Dems, 2 for Reps). I have to say, too, that I'm impressed with all of them, especially compared to what I remember of the last elections where it was basically the least of all evils. So, who do we have, what are they doing, and who are you going to vote for? Read More »

Fuels of the Future pt 1 - Biodiesel
So I thought I'd put together a little series on what is currently considered "alternative fuels," that is, fuels from renewable resources that are being developed with the intention of replacing petroleum. Everyone knows about the hybrid and electric cars, but what about hydrogen, water, biodiesel, or ethanol fuels? The idea here will be to gather information about the lesser-known fuel alternatives and relay them here. The first fuel showcased in this series will be biodiesel. Read More »
My Response to the Vegans/Vegitarians
I've seen a few vegans/vegitarians (hereafter known simply as vegans, though still referring to both or whomever fits the description at the time) on here and elsewhere who have chosen to be so because they consider it cruel to eat meat. (Note: this doesn't apply to those who simply cannot consume meat, eggs, or milk.)
One thing I've noticed is that what is considered cruel varies from person to person. The ones that don't eat meat because most meat sources are slaughterhouses where animals are fed the leftovers from the other animals, I don't blame you and I respect that choice, though there are other sources. Not all meat comes from slaughterhouses, you just have to know where to look (and you don't always have to pay more, depending on where you live). Read More »
Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?
Who will guard the guards?
That's the rough translation of the Latin title that I recently put as my signature. Suffice to say, it turned at least a couple heads when I first started using it. I even got a request to write about it from someone who's fast becoming a friend on here. So, after some thought, I've finally decided to actually do so. Read More »
Some Questions About Current Christianity for the Current Christians
I grew up in the Christian Church, going from the Catholic church to Protestant (Church of God) to non-demoninational (though roughly following the same views as Protestant). During my years associated with the Christian Church, I came across more and more....outrageous claims, particularly when dealing with other religions, from the people that were supposed to be teachers of the children and teens. Here, at ProgressiveU, I've noticed that there are a lot of people who have clearly stated their dedication to Jesus and the Christian God. I, therefore, have some questions for you. These aren't just more questions about the Bible or God's claims or Jesus' claims. They've been done a million times. These are questions about the people that consider themselves Christian.* Read More »
Ron Paul's Revolution (or The New Revolution Part 2)
The New Revolution
I'm an avid gun/gun education advocate. As such, I end up in a lot of the gun control vs firearm education debates, many of which end up with something about the Second Amendment rights. Now, before you think this is just another gun debate, think about this: in the past five, ten, twenty, a hundred years, have we really had the freedoms that the writers of the Constitution intended? Video games can teach?
Many people consider video games to be nothing more than time-wasters, and many more people consider video games harmful and often use them as scapegoats when a teen acts out in a violent manner. Now, that's not to say that excessive playing of video games isn't harmful, but that's where self-control and/or parental control come into play. Aside from the obvious hand-eye-coordination, I found it interesting the things I actually learned or learned practical applications for. So, without further adieu... Things I Learned From Video Games (in no particular order)
- Vocabulary. I know, I know, it's a video game, it can't possibly be a good place to learn new words, especially with all the crap that is chat speak, but it has, really. Read More »
