I just got tested for AIDS and a whole bunch of other stuff. It is part of the standard bloodwork I have to go through to get life insurance. In case I die in an accident or something my family will be able to pay off my school debts. It was all pretty routine. I didn't even have to leave my house. A very nice, competent nurse came right to my dorm had me pee in a cup and sucked out some blood. No labs, no crappy magazines in a waiting room, all very comfortable. Read More »

One death is a tagedy, a million is just a statistic
“Kill one person and you are a murderer. Kill ten-thousand and you are a conqueror. Kill all and you are a God.” I can’t for the life of me remember who said that, but I find it quite enlightening. At a certain point we honor our greatest murders above most anybody. Read More »

I'm flying! ... Aren't I?
Let’s see if I can get this analogy across. Think of our civilization as an airplane. We built it just like the first aviators built theirs, guess work and far flung theories. We then climbed aboard and flung it off an extremely high cliff. Now for quite awhile it seemed like we were flying didn’t it? Sure the air was going by pretty quickly, but that’s to be expected, we were flying damnit! Read More »

What do you tell a woman with two black eyes?
Okay ladies, maybe you can explain something to me. Why do the cable channels aimed at women get away with pandering to disgusting stereotypes and portraying women at their absolute worst? I can unserstand other stations allowing and encouraging this, but they are not touting themselves as focused on women. Shows like Bridezilla portray women as nothing more than hormone monsters focused on superficiallity. Read More »

Terrorism is just privatized special forces
The US government employs many terrorists. We call them Navy SEALS and Green Berets. They often do the same jobs and often outside the bounds of any war. Terrorists just don't have, or sometimes do, the official support of a government. We train our special ops to be cold, efficient killing machines, and terrorists rely on fanaticism, what's the difference? They are both willing to do anything they are told, and they are both devoted to a cause. Well, some SEALS just like killing people, but so do some terrorists. Read More »

Shouldn't Viagra be OTC?
Why is Viagra a prescription drug? I understand it has a pretty small effective dose to overdose curve, but when used as directed it isn't dangerous, addictive or have any problems that a doctor needs to be keeping track of constantly. There isn't much reason to take Viagra in overdoses. It has a specific, easily observable effect that you are unlikely to need to heighten, like with say Tylenol. No one is going to say, "Oh, boners not big enough, better pop another 100mg of Viagra." Read More »

For all you lovely homophobes!
So for all of you fun and interesting homophobes... It has been shown that the people most against gays tend to be unhappy with their own homosexual feelings. So we know your secret guys and girls. You are secretly in love with all those homos you hate so much. In fact, you probably have a little inferiority complex because you got snubbed the first time you made an advance on the same sex. UCLA Student gets brutalized
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VP_M8s0GFEc
http://www.ala.org/Template.cfm?Section=news&template=/ContentManagement/ContentDisplay.cfm&ContentID=143450
This is the whole video of a UCLA student getting tased, a lot, and an article by the American Library Association. I chose this article because it should be reasonably unbiased, and should have some kind of stake in keeping libraries safe. I have a stake in making sure these cops get crucified. Read More »
