A message to ALL bloggers! Thanks for reading!
For the small number of people who read my blogs on a somewhat regular basis, or have at least noticed that I have sort of dissappeared off the radar, there are two reasons for this. The first being that I am graduating in about 3 weeks, I am a classs officer, so I am having to help plan graduation and pull it together, we had prom last weekend, and as spring sports and activities are coming to a close I am either participating in these events or I am covering them for school. Ya, its that crazy. However I have not been completely absent! I have been trying to comment still and keep up with people's blogs even if I have not been able to post. I would rather not post than fall behind on the insiteful things our fellow bloggers have to say. Which brings me to my point! Read More »

Does it bother anyone else that hitler and napoleon share a birthday?
I do not know if anyone else has already blogged on this, but I find the fact that both Hitler and Napoleon's birthday are today, April 20, kind of disturbing. Hitler was the greatest ruler of the twentieth century, and by greatest I do not mean best, but I am instead referring to the amount of power he had. Napoleon was the greatest leader of the nineteenth century. Is it a coincidence that both of these rulers who believed in expansionism to an abusrd degree share the same birthday? Read More »

List of detainees held at Gitmo finally released
The United States federal government has finally released a report listing the names of the detainees being held at Guantanamo Bay. Accrording to the AP, "In all, the detainees on the list came from 41 countries. The largest number 132 came from Saudi Arabia. Afghanistan followed with 125, then Yemen with 107. " I find it amusing that most of the the detainees did not come from Afghanistan, but rather from Saudi Arabia. Last time I checked, the government claimed that everyone of the detainees had been captured because we had received intelligence stating that they were a threat, or that we had caught them fighting against our soilders in Afghanistan. And correct me if I am wrong, I thought we were fighting in Afghanistan, not Saudia Arabia, or Yemen. Read More »

Should students be allowed to opt out of finals?
Is allowing students to opt out of high school finals fair or an intelligent educational decision. Many parents in my school's distrct think that it is neither and incentives like this should be abolished. They believe that since they had to take every one of their finals in high school, so should their children. In addition many parents have complained that high school is supposed to prepare their children for college and in college there is no such thing as "opting out." But how do they propose to encourage students to learn without incentives. I know, I know, having a steady, high paying job and attending a state university versus working at Burger King for their entire lives should be enough of an incentive, but it is not anymore. National scholarships are a waste of students’ time
Over spring break, I did not visit Florida, or Hawaii, take a senior road trip, or spend time doing fun activities with my friends. I spent every hour of every day working on scholarships provided by Scholarships.com or Fastweb.com. I also made one of the biggest mistakes of my life in doing so. Contrary to popular belief, popular scholarship websites, like the ones listed above, are not helpful to students, but are actually a waste of students’ time.
Because these sites are so popular, students from every high school, and in some cases college, around the nation are competing for the same exact scholarships. And when I say "the same exact scholarships," I am not exaggerating. The majority of scholarship providers on these sites only offer one or two scholarships per contest. On a good day, students might find a provider that offers ten...at the most. But even ten scholarships do not go very far, when one-million high school students are fighting over them. Read More »

Next my school school will block 'Progressive U' :Part 2
A few days ago I wrote a post entitled, Next my school will block Progressive U, then a fellow blogger wrote a response post, or what I believe was a response post, to this entitledThe New Sex Education. Instead of replying directly to this post through comments, I thought it might be easier to create an entirely new post. In the first part of her post she states that people who really want to check their blogs can check them off of their cell phones. First of all, contrary to popular belief, most cell phones to do not have the capability to check sites like those. There is way to much content and detail for cell phones to handle, unless you have some high tech cell phone, which most students do not...especially if you do not have a labtop or computer to access these sites outside of school in the first place. Plus, even those cell phones that do have the ability to do so take too long to load the sites. Not to mention it costs outrageous amonts to have the internet on your cell phone-it cost an average of twenty dollars a month; more than it costs for most people to have full internet use at home.
