The mother of the fourteen year old boy who was killed in the Florida bootcamp beating is now claiming she believes the coroners cause of death is a government coverup for the truth. It has been found that the boy did not die from the beating, but from a rare sickel cell disease no one was aware he had. However the boys mother refuses to accept the truth. While I do not agree with the extensive beating that forced upon the boy, and I understand his mother's pain, it is ridiculous to believe that it is some kind of government cover-up. Next, she will be claiming the beating was an act of racism rather than discipline. I am not sterotyping her as an angry black woman, but that is all she has proved to be in the media coverage. She is exactly the tpe of person to start screaming RACISM. No, I am not racist myself; I am half black.Trust me, I am not singling her out or attempting to degrade African Americans. But, the fact of the matter is the government has no reason to cover up the cause of the boy's death. The incidence alone is causing law makers to second guess boot camps across Florida and as a result boot camps in Florida may be closed. Plus, if the government truly wanted to cover up the enitre situation, it could ahve distroyed the video tapes! It is one thing to grieve and it is natural to blame others in times of pain, and if she feels the need to prosecute the guards and the camp, more power to her. But in her grief she also needs to recognize the truth because if she does not now, then she never will.

Alternative Fuel Source discovered by high school students! A MUST READ!
Still believe cars run on gasoline because there is no alternative fuel source? That is no avoiding the skyrocketing oil prices? Not according to West Philadelphia high school students. Several of the school's students have built a soybean powered car as an after school project. It only took them ONE YEAR to do this. Not only does the car run on soybean biodiesel, it is a sports economy car that gets 51 miles to the gallon and can go from 0-60 in four seconds. It was recently featured at the Phildelphia auto show (see CBS NEWS Video entitled "Soybean Powered Car"). Read More »

Are you shy? If you are, then you may be at risk for Parkinson's.
New Studies have shown that those persons with shy personalities may be at a higher risk of developing Parkinson's disease. In addition, those people with Parkinson's scored higher than those without the disease on anxiety and depression tests. Well, that makes sense. If I had Parkinson's, I would probably be depressed too. I bet if you analyze cancer afflicted people they will score high on anxiety and depression tests as well. Knowing you are going to die soon does not usually cause happiness. Im glad it was Britian who wasted their money to find out that obvious truth and not the United States; we already waste enough moeny as it is. In addition, doctors have found that straight-laced persons are more likely to develop the disease. Patients are usually punctual, non thrill seekers. But no worries, if you are active on this site, Im sure you are not shy. Usually those who are interested in politics are not shy. Yet in some ways this study was extremely effective. Now, I have an excuse for my strong, outgoing, bubbly personality; I am just protecting myself from Parkinson's :) Read More »

Seven Africans die in drought
After reading Abc's "Devastating drought blamed for African deaths" (http://www.abc.net.au/news/newsitems/200602/s1572066.htm) I feel absolutely horrible. Here we are in America taking fifteen minute hot baths, while there are people in Africa drinking their own urine due to drought. I feel as if there is something we could be doing, I could be doing to help. Bu I am not quite sure what to do considering the report was published simutaneously as it was revealed that 9 of the 16 countries deemed most corrupt (see Forbes) were African countires. UN may shut down Guantanamo Bay
Sometimes I read news stories and realize why I claim to be a liberal republican. This is one is a perfect example. The actual text of the article is in plain font and my opinion is in italics.

Meet Me: The First Liberal Republican
I could call myself an independant but I am not an independant. I am a republican, just a very liberal one. There are certain issues that I could never agree with the democratic party on and therefore I could never be a democrat. Although I do not always agree with the Bush Administrations decisions, I agree with most of them and the Republican values in general. I am graduating from highschool in several months and though I am going to be happy to be free from previous restaints, I am going to miss being editor of my highschool newspaper. I love my ediorial column dearly. I am also on my high school's varsity debate and forensics team as well as an officer of my state's Model United Nations program.Next year I plan to attend a division one school and major in journalism with a minor or major in political science as well.
