Should Businesses Be Socially Responsible?

Tagged:  •    •    •    •

I read a little about the Starbucks chain.  Even though the number of locations is growing larger every year, and they are making plenty of profits--they have a policy of community, or social responsibility.  They require their employees to participate in volunteering or other types of time-giving to the community.  They are involved in clean-up programs, reading programs and athletic programs.  They have an aggressive recycle program that ranges from the garbage to the coffee filters they use.  However, should all businesses have a degree of social responsibility?  Read More »

Have A "Back To School Drive"

I know there has to be one great way to spend the summer.  For me, its preparing for the next season.  And I decided to spend my summer helping others, but by getting everyone else to help at the same time.  I thought about several drives or fundraisers that would be beneficial to people in my general city -- children in particular.  During my research online, I found some interesting projects.  I have read about foundations that supply books and music to various organizations-such as schools and churches-to help increase the size of a library or supplies.  So I thought up a cool summer idea.  Read More »

The Gas Prices Have Finally Caught UP

Tagged:  •

I can recall last year when several economics professionals predicted that gas would rise to three dollars and stay there.  Well, last year we did not see that three dollar mark until the hurricanes began to threaten the oil industry.  Nevertheless, I felt I would remain untouched because of my travel habits.  My travel consisted of back and forth to work each day, and an occassional trip off that route.  Well. having to travel to school two times each week hurts.   Read More »

Why Every Person Should Play A Sport

Tagged:  •

When I was growing up, I played plenty of sports.  I was a member of the volleyball team, the basketball team and the track team.  Basketball was my favorite sport, even though I was much better in track.  At that age, playing sports helped me to build confidence in myself and also taught me to work with others.  However, in high school, I only played basketball for two years, and I ran track for three years.  There are many aspects of me and my life that I attribute to playing sports, but there are many hidden benefits that it instills.  Read More »

The Best Search Sites For School (In Rough, Research Order)

Tagged:  •    •

I spent more than an hour going through the different websites.  The first one I checked out was lexisnexis.com.  It was exciting to see all the information for students, actually for people of all career fields and from all types of intuitions.  Next, I traveled to ingenta.com.  It was in-depth: searching by a keyword and selections of articles popped up.  If you’re researching for a paper, the source is listed (but you cant read the article because you have to buy it first).    Read More »

The Truth To Work (For the Rest of My Life)

Tagged:  •    •    •    •

I consider jobs and education to be the true definition of ‘real’ work in this society, although every tick of a clock sounds off a recent result of work.  Every act I partake in is a task, and therefore, I conclude that work is inevitable.  When I think of work as unavoidable I cringe knowing that I will be working everyday for the rest of my life.  I heard someone once say ‘the only way out is the way through’.  To me this means that we cannot get  out of work, but there are a couple of concepts to keep in mind.   Read More »

The Roots Of Present Day America- Church Was The State!

I am sorry! (but this should not be a surprise if you have read my other blogs). Another history lesson. . .is it surprising to find that our country was built on religious principles. . .and perhaps that is why our country is falling away from all of that as the generations pass. . . it all began with the colonists.  They were outcasts in their own country, so they came to this new land to exercise freedom.  This is how our country began:  Read More »
