Political Correctness--The Death of Intelligent Thought and The Fall of Western Civilization

The other day I was flipping through a book of politically correct fairy tales in which Cinderella discovered independence and Snow White woke up on her own without the aid of the prince and went on to be wildly successful.  While these stories can be amusing, it seems that they touch a more disturbing issue in today's society. 

Political correctness has become crutch on which people lean because they live in fear of "upsetting" and "offending" others.  In effect, being politically correct has begun to strip people of their freedom of speech and expression because they live in so much fear of alienating others and being labeled a bigot. I fear that political correctness will impede people's intelligent thoughts and dictation--and will rob the world of not only creative works, but also intellectual views and commentary.   The fairy tales, as the example I used, were infinately better as the Grimm Brothers wrote them, yet today's need for being seen as politically correct has robbed them of the luster and appeal.  Furthermore, I fear that in America's case, we will become extremely politically correct because we fear being viewed as "ethnocentric"--which has to be one of the most cowardly words I've ever seen.  And ultimately, this overdose of political correctness will cause the fall of western civilization because everyone will be so afraid of their shadows that they will not have courage to act or express the things that need to be expressed and we will be overrun by communists and socialists.  Read More »
