There is something terribly wrong with this line. Why do we, as a society, paint members of minority groups as victims? We may not do it totally consciously, and in fact we may intend well when we do it, but by conferring "victim" status upon minorities we are only compounding their marginalization and disenfranchisement. Hello, I'm a Minority and Society Tells Me I'm a Victim

Forbidden Discourses
In Ray Bradbury's famous novel, Fahrenheit 451, the citizens of a futuristic society are not allowed to speak their minds. In fact, they have a much worse problem: there is nothing on their minds to speak about. They don't even read books, because they are afraid of addressing new subjects and expanding their intellects. The most disturbing aspect of Bradbury's fictional totalitarian society is that the people, not the government, initially introduced the oppression of free thought. They live under a self-imposed creed of censorship. In a way, I see our own society starting to walk down this same road, thanks to the doctrine of political correctness. Read More »

Quandary of the Independent
The recent discussions about third party candidates here on ProU got me thinking. Sure, I'd entertain the notion of voting for a few third party candidates, but that's just not very realistic. A vote for a third party is a vote which is wasted, and nobody here can contest that. The winner of the upcoming presidential election will be Obama or McCain; the minor party candidates and independents do not stand a chance. Read More »

Forget Universal Healthcare- Give Us Universal Education
I am a conservative. So not surprisingly, I'm no fan of universal healthcare. But, I am a tentative advocate of universal education- surprise, surprise! Read More »

A Review of "Indoctrinate U"
Recently, the Government and Law Society at my school held a screening of the documentary "Indoctrinate U," directed by the independent film maker Evan Coyne Maloney. Maloney seeks in this film to uncover and investigate political biases on college campuses. Read More »

The Intellectual Shackle
Yes, yet another blog about the last presidential debate. But- before you shrug off my blog as just another political manifesto, know this- I'm not blogging about the candidates’ platforms or how they did. My goal is to explore a phenomenon I observed among my peers watching the debate with me.
Their behavior was a little disconcerting, as I noticed my fellow college students exhibiting signs of an “intellectual shackle.” What I mean is, they had brought their preconceived notions to the debate, and were therefore extremely closed-minded when it came to responding to the candidates' (usually John McCain’s) ideas. They based their opinions of the debate upon existing stereotypes rather than using their intellect to freely explore new ideas- hence the term, "intellectual shackle." Read More »

Barack W. Obama
This blog is totally speculative- a "what if" blog.
The left wing nonprofit organization ACORN has been discovered filing fraudulent voter registrations in several states, which is not speculative- that's true. They've also done it in the past- again, that's a confirmed fact. ACORN has also endorsed Barack Obama for president- that's also factual.
I'm just going to connect some dots here and make a wild speculation- though it could very well turn out to be true. If ACORN has filed fraudulent voter registrations in the past, who's to say that they didn't do it during the primaries? I mean, they were only just discovered now, so it's totally possible that we missed them back during primary season. This raises a disturbing possibility for Senator Obama- could fake ACORN voter registrations have affected the primary election? Did he then unfairly win (i.e. steal) the election, George W. Bush style? Read More »

Tirade of a Puritan
I'm not technically a "Puritan" in the religious sense of the word; rather, I am a Puritan in the sense of being disturbed by the state of ethics and morality in my generation and its culture today. Of course it's no business of mine, but the way my peers carry out their lives today absolutely drives me insane. It seems all teenagers want to ever do is party, party, party- they call it being "free" or "having fun," but in reality they are miserable slaves. The most distressing part of it all is I can complain about it, but I know nothing I do or say will make any difference.
Warning: This will be a puritanical diatribe against you, my generation. Read More »
