Is this blogging getting me anywhere?

Tagged:

You know..I've been on this blog for a little over a week and I just don't think it's getting me anywhere.  I sincerely doubt that I'll have enough points to win the scholarship, so the time I have put in is just being wasted.  I feel like a goof writing stupid things, and I don't even know what to write about.  I'm probably the "old lady" of the group, as I'm sure everyone else that is blogging on here is considerably younger than I am....late teens, early twenties, I'm sure.  I don't mind blogging and might actually enjoy it, but I think a group that is closer to my own age might work better for me.

Not all single women over a certain age are lesbians....

Tagged:

Explain something to me.... why do people automatically think that single women over 35 are lesbians?  Let me say upfront....I have no problems with lesbians.  Everyone is entitled to live their life as they see fit.  I'm 43 years old and single.  I've never been married.  I AM NOT A LESBIAN.  I date several guys and absolutely love it.  I am an independent, self-confident, intelligent woman.  Why does that automatically make me gay?  I just don't get it!

Common courtesy is no longer alive and well

Tagged:

Something I have noticed for a long time is that common courtesy, politeness, manners and respect for others seems to be lacking, if not altogether gone in this country.  What happened to holding the door for someone as you're going out or entering?  What happened to smiling at a stranger and saying hello as you pass them on the street, in a doorway, or in a hall?  What happened to helping someone carry their groceries or their bags if they appear to be struggling?  What happened to saying please and thank you to the waiter or waitress taking your order, or at the fast food restaurant?  It never ceases to amaze me how generally rude people are.  When I'm driving to work, the people who drive by in such a hurry are so annoyingly rude!  Do they really think that the 3 or 4 minutes theyr're saving by plowing past me on the highway are really going to make a difference?  Or if there's a traffic jam because of an accident, or road work or something, people begin honking their horns and trying to pass.  Why?  Again, they can't just sit there for a couple of minutes, just like everyone else, and wait until the problem is resolved?

Thin vs. fat - part 2

Tagged:

My apologies for not making myself clear.

The point of my blog was that despite society's view of how women should look - we should be more concerned with how we feel about ourselves, than how society views us.  This is something that most women realize as they age.  Life would be considerably easier if they realized this fact at a much younger age.

Society telling women they must be skinny is just plain wrong.  Healthy is one thing - stick thin is another.  Considering my weight issue, I am quite healthy, and my doctor tells me that at my quarterly visits.  It is not carved in stone that all overweight people are unhealthy.  It is also not carved in stone that ll overweight people are lazy and don't care about themselves.  There are many reasons why people are overweight.  There could be hormonal problems, medication problems, genetic problems.  Don't assume that we are all lazy and spend every waking moment on the couch stuffing ourselves with cookies, candy and cake.

Married women can't buy a home without their husband's name on it....

Tagged:

Do any of you women out there know that if you are married and you want to purchase a home with or without you husband, and you want the deed to have only your name, that it is illegal?  I'm sorry, this is not right.  I'm a single woman and I own my own home and I discovered this when I signed the loan papers.  It was mentioned in passing.  I am appalled!  How old-

Thin vs. fat

Tagged:

I am 43 years old and I've come to the revelation that a woman's size isn't a big issue.  According to my doctor, I am 80 lb. overweight.  I think I'm very proportioned though.  I have ALWAYS felt that I was unattractive to men.  Always.  I never dated in high school, and I have dated very little since then.  Now, here's something interesting.  Since turning 40, I have dated a 49 year old, a 42 year old and a 35 year old - all of which told me that I am "beautiful".  I have discussed the size issue with them and all were attracted to my size, and said that more men like women such as me, as opposed to a thinner woman.  I am having such a difficult time swallowing this theory.  Really.  Society tells women that we have to be stick thin to be attractive to men.

Sleep Study - part 2

Tagged:

Ok, so the sleep study was quite interesting.  I arrived just before 9:00 pm and it took them about 45 minutes to wire me up.  They put electrodes in my hair, on my face, on my neck, on my chest and on my legs.  So I get into bed and watch TV for about an hour and then was getting sleepy so I turned the TV off and tried to sleep.  Well, the wires were so annoying and it kept feeling like they were going to be pulled out everytime I turned over.  Needless to say, I sleep really poorly.  I know it took me at least an hour to fall asleep, and I tossed and turned all night.  Then at 5:50 am, they come in to get me up!  I thought 'no way, they can't be coming in here to wake me up', but they were.  So they unwire me and I picked the gauze and grease (from the electrodes, for contact) out of my hair and I head home.  I was SO tired, I layed down for an hour and get more sleep in that hour than I did all night.  So then I got up and took a shower and washed the gunk out of my hair.  15 minutes later I'm styling my hair and discovered that I missed one of the greasy spots!  I was grossed out, but didn't have time to rewash it, so I just pulled it back and went to work.  Right after work I reshowered and rewashed my hair...this time I got it all.  MUCH BETTER!!

Don't people want to work for a living?

Tagged:

Why is it that no one wants to work for a living these days.  Is everyone that lazy?  We can't seem to keep employees where I work.  Granted, it is a manual labor job, but we are paying above minimum wage and offer excellent benefits.  It just seems like everyone wants to start at $18.00 and only work 3 days a week!  We have 13 employees and have at least 2-3 report offs per day.  And when pay-day rolls around, they complain that their paycheck is so small.  HEL-LO????  Do they not get that they need to work 40 hours??  And, I hate to sterotype, because I do realize that not all people in the age bracket of 18-30 are not the same, but it seems that age bracket are the worst offenders!  Especially 18-25.  Again - not to offend anyone - I do realize that not everyone is like that.  Believe me - I wish more werent.  It is very frustrating to those of us who are trying to hire them!
