Celebrity Lives

I work in a Caino and in a department where I cater to many important people. For example, Prince, Elton John, Celine Dion, Toni Braxton, just to name a few. All of which have been pretty pleasant. However, ever so often I'll get a client ( a celebrity) who is always unhappy about everything, from the type of sheets that's on there King Size, Round Shaped bed that had to be ordered and placed in their suite to the way their Starbucks coffee was made. Sometimes I feel that some celebrities let their status get to their head. Sometimes some of them think that because they are famous that they are entitled to have everything completely FREE. To me I don't agree. I think that if they are celebrity that they should have to pay because they are the ones that have the money to be able to afford to stay in a hotel that cost $5000.00 plus a night. So if they can afford to pay that then they should be able to pay for their drinks and dinner outings without complaints. Sometimes I think certain celebrities need to be kicked back into reality.

Legalizing MaryJane

So I live in Las Vegas, Nevada and I'm not sure if everyone knows but there is a bill (yet again this year) for this upcoming state and senate election to legalize marajuana. Now personally I see the pros and the cons in passing the bill. I've done some research that said that even people who get marajuana prescribed it is still against the law for them to have it and use it. I didn't know this.

Favorite Painting Artist

http://www.vangoghgallery.com/

Vicent Van Gogh is one of my favorite painters because he uses thick strokes in his paintings that, to me, make the paintings seem almost alive. I personally have three replica paintings of his in my home, the "Starry Night", the "Lilies," and "The Cafe Terrace on the Place du Forum." Though they are not the originals my replicas' are a joy to see in my home.

What is Knowledge?

Tagged:  •

Defining knowlegde is becoming increasingly more absract. Typically, facts things that have proven to be correct are considered part of knowing something to be truth. I once heard another professor say knowlegde is simply an argument..a winning one. The more i think about this, the more i believe it to be true, it's how we define things, the facts to support your argument in which you win. Other than what we already know or gain from experiences, other ways for defining knowledge are still trial and error.
Knowledge is a powerful tool but is also a tool that can only be used through experience in my opinion. From experience knowlegde is gained. Knowledge is not just subjects learned in text books (though that may be helpful). For example learning to fish... someone can read on how to learn and use good fishing techniques but the knowledge on how to be a good fisherman is from experience in fishing.

Rationalism Vs Empiricism

Tagged:  •

Empiricism states that all ideas come to us through experience through our senses or sensations. I think that the problem with this theory of knowledge is that two people can perceive something in two different ways. How can we tell whose sensations are true? I think a great example of this is temperature. Think back to when you were younger and you were swimming in a pool. Your sibling or friend gets in the pool first to test out the water. You ask if the water is cold and they say, "Come on in! The water's fine." Now, the water may feel alright to them, but when you get in, you think it's freezing and have to get out because you can't stand it. Now, who is right? Your friend feels that the water is warm, but you feel that it is cold. If two people's sensations are conflicting, how can we say that it's true knowledge?

The Chicken or the Egg?

Tagged:  •
Hmmm... I've had this debate several times before in other classes and with several friendly discussions with peers and I have to say that this is the coolest and most interesting topic to talk about. Which did come first the chicken or egg? Some might say that the chicken came first because the chicken produces the egg. Others will say that the egg came first because the chicken came from the egg.

Litter BUG

So today I was driving on my way to work and I think there's a huge problem with polution!!!! Why is it that people think that they can just role down their window and just toss their trash out the window? It's something called a trash can! I witness someone just straight up littering and there was no police or highway patrol there to give them a ticket. I mean there are signs on the road where I drive that if you litter it is a minimum fine of $5000.00 but yet people feel that they can just litter and get away with it. I'm not saying that I'm a "tree hugger" in anything but it's just polluting and wrong. I know that some people say,"oh it's just one person" but what if in every state there was "just one person" who was littering; that would be 50 people littering. Now imagine one person in each city of each state; that would be practically uncountable. So I guess my point here is that people shouldn't litter.

School and Homework

Tagged:  •

So I'm from Las Vegas, NV and recently there has been talk around town and on the local news about how teachers give out too much homework that is simply pointless to do. On the radios they have parents who will debate the subject about how they feel on the issue and I think some of their comments on it is so riduculous. For example one parent had called (let's call her Sarah* and her daughter Mia*) saying that "Mia her 4th grader gets too much homework to do and that she as a parent does not have enough time between work and taking care of her children to have to watch Mia and help Mia with her homework." The main issue I have with this is that "Hello she's your kid, aren't you suppose to help her if she needs it. And yes I can understand that you're busy but how hard and how much time would you need to invest to help your daughter with her homework she's in the 4th grade."
