Socialism will always fail

An article by Christian Toothaker describes the intentions of Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez to sieze all property in the nation and place it under state ownership. Much like the failed "collective ownership" programs of the now defunct Soviet Union, the new Venezuelan plan would eliminate private ownership of real estate and land development. Chavez claims to be leading the nation toward its future as a "socialist utopia," but like all other dictators, Chavez has delusions of granduer; socialism will always fail for the plain and simple reason that it is impossible.

Why we don't need government social programs

A common argument against capitalism is that the less fortunate of society, such as the poor and the disabled, require outside help and would die (or live very miserably) without it. Thus, we need social programs to provide relief for such people. Like most other arguments for statism, this claim is unfounded.

In Mexico City, a group of 250 protesters surrounded a Wal-Mart outlet and demanded that the retail giant leave the country. They claim that large, foreign corporations such as Wal-Mart exploit workers and destroy local businesses, thereby decreasing the standard of living in the countries where they do business.
