College

Tagged:  •    •    •

I had a discussion with my mom today about college.

These days, getting a college degree is like getting a high school degree: you pretty much have to have one. And the way I was raised (and the way my mother was raised) there was no question about it. You went to high school and then went to college.

Age differences and marriage

Tagged:  •

One of my teachers is getting married to a former student next summer. She is 28, and he is 19.

Now, beyond extraneous controversies surrounding this relationship, why should that be weird? If a 60 year old man was marrying a 70 year old woman, people would not find that weird.

Minorities come in all shapes and sizes

Tagged:  •    •    •

I am part of a minority. And it's by my own choice.

I'm one of the few people my age (that I know of) that doesn't drink or do drugs.

And I'll admit, it's cost me some fun.

I could hang out with my friends all the time, but if there's a chance drinking will occur, I'm not invited. And I like it that way.

The definition of hazing is hazy

Recently, in my local paper, there was an attack made indirectly on my school's Anchor club for "hazing."

Yes, the Anchor club members were initiating their Anchor Gents. Yes, the boys in question were wearing makeup, women's clothing, and dancing around on the side of a major street in my town.

But is that really hazing?
