The ban on myspace.com has been lifted at CSM, but some computer labs and the library have allowed it. The ban was origainally place on the basis that it is distracting to the students. CSM did not allow myspace, because it does not allow students to completey focus on their work, and it reduces the bonding between students. Others, some teachers and students, think myspace is ok, because it allows them to talk to friends, and my be useful in research. I do not see how it is helpful in research, but I think it should be allowed. First of all it doesn't even matter if myspace is blocked, because there are many proxies that allow students to get around the security. Students are not distracted by myspace alone, there are many other websites that students can get distracted by. I think the whole ban is a stupid idea, because we are not in jr. high or high school, we are adults, and we should be treated as adults. We are responsible for how we use our time, CSM is not our baby sitter, and they are not their to make sure we doing things right. CSM is there to teach us, not regulate us.  Read More »

Have any of you ever wondered why 420 is the get high holiday? The day itself has a good history behind it, but whether it is good or bad is up to you. First of all the term 420 comes from a group of friends called the "waldos", and they went to San Rafel high in 1972. They dubbed the term 420 as a code reminder that they were smoking at 4:20 after school. Eventually the term also meant "do you have any weed". That 420 is the time and not the date, the date has a great history, and is why 420 is special. Some good things happened on 420 like apollo 16 landing on the moon in 1972, German terroist group announces dissolution in 1998, and American Revolution begins with siege of Boston in 1775. Some major birthday happened on 420 as well like; Muhammad in 570, Nepoleon III of France in 1808, Carmen Electra in 1972, Luther Vandross in 1951, and Adolf Hitler in 1889. It is said that the day for smoking weed comes from Hitlers birthday, because of some who were loyal to him lit up to remember him. It's wierd to think that you might be celebrating the birth of Hitler on 420, so next time you light up take a second to think about what your celebrating.  Read More »
