A child rapist in Maryland had all charges against him dropped because the court could not find an interpreter to speak his native language of Vai, which is a West African language spoken by about 100,000 people world wide. The link to one of the news stories is below.

RIP Zina Linnik

On July 4, 2007 in Tacoma, WA, a little girl, 12 years old, was abducted from behind her home. Her father heard a scream, saw a white van, and got a partial license plate number. Yesterday, Zina Linnik's body was found, and a person of interest who had been arrested on an immigration violation was the one who directed law enforcement to her body. This illegal immigrant was also an unregistered sex offender living in a town outside of Tacoma.  Read More »

My Two Cents

So, I have spent a bit of time this morning perusing the abortion arguement blogs, and thought that I would put my two cents in. Let me preface my blog with saying a bit about my own history. I have one child, who I had when I was 18 years old, and I have had one abortion, which I had at 20. After having my abortion, it is not something I would ever want to go through again, personally. I believe that abortion is wrong (especially now that I am a bit older), though I can't say that if I had known then what I know now I wouldn't have had mine done, but I would like to think that I wouldn't have.  Read More »

The End of the World

I haven't blogged in months here, as I have been extremely busy working on my bachelor's degree. But, I have a moment now, and I wanted to discuss something that I heard on talk radio last night on my way home from work. I heard a story of a woman in Kansas who was stabbed in a convenience store. It wasn't the stabbing that shocked me, it was the story behind it.  Read More »

I Was Hit By A Car

Tagged:  •    •    •    •    •    •    •

Seriously.  I was hit by a car as I was walking in the crosswalk last night.  I was layed out, on the pavement, in the rain.  Obviously, I am okay, otherwise I wouldn't be here writing this.  I am sore, I have a scrape on my elbow, my back and neck are stiff and sore, but other than that, I am fine.  The guy took off.  He hit me, I got up out of the road and moved myself to the sidewalk.  He pulled up, unrolled the passenger side window, and asked me if I was okay.  I said, "You just hit me with a fucking car.  No, I am not okay."  And then he left.  Luckily, I was able to get the license plate, and after I called 911 and had an officer come to my home, it is looking like we will catch the guy.   Read More »

Little Office Nasties

Tagged:  •    •    •    •

'The Office' is my favorite show on television at present.  I think I have figured out why.  Not only is it funny, but I think that it is a fair representation of what every office in the country is like, mine included.  I understand that every person is different, with their own quirks and ways of doing things.  How is it possible, day after day, in cities and towns all over the country, that all of these different people are able to come together and get things done?  Sometimes, it's truly amazing.  Read More »

Am I The Only One Who Thinks This Is Ridiculous?

Tagged:  •    •    •

My cute little niece turned seven years old on Tuesday.  Is there anything sweeter than a little seven year old girl giggling, playing with her dolls, pretending to be a princess, or talking on her cell phone?  That's correct.  My newly seven year old niece got not only an mp3 player for her birthday, but also a real working cell phone from her dead beat dad.  My sister, who is 25, was a little upset that this dead beat dad did not contact her prior to sending this cell phone, because she believes that seven may be a bit to young for a phone.  The proper age for a cell phone according to my sister?  Nine.  You could have knocked me over with a feather, that's how floored I was.  She said in her blog that she had "planned to get her one when she was nine because that's when she would be needing one, because she would be more on her own then."  Am I the only one (and I know that I am not, because I have discussed this with a couple of people already) who thinks that this is disgusting?  My response to my sister was that she is part of the reason why our society is as messed up as it is.  It's because of young parents like her pushing her children into adulthood before they are in training bras.  Read More »

Losing My Best Friend

Tagged:  •

My best friend is getting married.  Again.  Actually, she is already married, but was married in the courthouse.  Now, she wants to have a 'real' wedding.  She wants to be a bride, white veil and all.  It's driving me nuts.  She's driving me nuts.  Some might read this and come to the conclusion that I am merely jealous.  Some might think that I am bitter.  But I neither jealous or bitter.  What I am is tired of hearing the same thing day after day about her 'love of a lifetime.'  She loves her husband.  I get it already.  Read More »
