the qualities of a good friend...

so i had a philosophy project for my midterm grade....this was the basis of my project:

  1. list the qualities of a good friend
  2. rank order those qualities (list from 1 to 5: one the most important, five least important...)
  3. make objections to those qualities, (are they neccessary, sufficient, or in the proper order)
  4. make an argument to defend your reasoning on the rank order of the qualities.

out of the many things friends can be to a person, what do you think is the most important quality that a friend should have?   On my groups list we had :trustworthy, respectful, responsible, positive, and supportive. (in no particular order...)  Read More »

School Safety?

Tagged:  •

So I was watching the Montel show today, and they had various students on the show that had been affected in school tragedies. One member of the audience said that we should arm the teachers and the principles for student protection. But the psychiatrist in the audience said that arming the faculty would cause even more problems. But what can we do? We can't lock all the doors with chains because if there is a fire, the kids can't get out to safety. Another option was given too. What about having a local police station on campus regulating the traffic of kids through metal detectors? Whatever the right decision might be, something has to be done quickly. Especially since one of the most recent school shootings was at an Amish school and little girls were murdered for no apparent reason. We should be concerned about our children and their safety while at school. They are the future.

So as I have been browsing the new blogs, I see that people are very willing to speak about religion or the lack of it. But in an easy but overasked question, where did we come from? From a God who created every person individually or from a large "bang" in the cosmos? Although we seem to believe that our beliefs are our own, they are actually given to us. I know it sounds crazy. We all know what we believe or what we don't. But it is a fact. It is a fact the government knows how the new voters will vote, because based on various studies, a child is most likely going to have the same beliefs as their parents/caregivers. Especially when politics and morals are involved. So do we really choose how and what we believe, or do we grow up in an environment that grooms us to be who we are now? When I was first asked this question, I was offended to think someone would and did question my character and my beliefs. But when you really ponder this, it opens your eyes and forces you to investigate what you REALLY believe. I'm NOT saying that all of you people are crazy and you are just repeating what you have been subliminally exposed to. I am saying that to really understand what we believe, and to defend our own beliefs, we need to explore other beliefs with the same fervor that we explore our own. So WHAT DO YOU BELIEVE? Well at least about where we all came from and where we are going after this life, if anywhere.

What is the US Government going to do about North Korea?

So what should be done with the recent nuclear testing of the North Korean government? They were strongly advised by many nations NOT to go through with this testing. What do you think will become of this action? War? It is really hard to tell. All I know is that I am worried for the world. I just hope that the right decisions are made in dealing with the current situation. What do you think will happen?  The last thing that the we needs is another World War. But hopefully the UN can work things out with North Korea, but where can they start? With how the previous talks went with N. Korea it is really hard to tell how everything will turn out.

Cussing....A sin or not?

So a friend of mine posted a blog with that title "Cussing, A sin or not?" and I want to know what everyone out here feels about this subject. His blog got pretty heated to say the least. But he was forcing his opinion on the reader, not the proper way to be when asking people their opinions. Anyways lets just say he lost that battle with the people who voiced their opinions.  Read More »
