Student Council. Why are they making us pay these fees?

Tagged:  •

On my local Student Council at high school, we are required to pay a certain fee monthly.

But here is my question.

If we are doing so much service for the community and the school, why do we have to pay a ten dollar fee monthly? I think it is ridiculous. I am doing every thing I can for the student council, and they give back by reminding me daily that I have forgotten my fees to pay. You do the math. August through December and ten dollars per month is fifty dollars, just to be in Student Council. Then it happens the next semester again. So, overall, I am paying one hundred dollars to be in student council. Where is this fair? We are supposed to be giving all of our service to the school, but I do not think it is necessary to make us pay those fees, especially when I am already paying off so many other things, that it is hard to keep up with all the fees, and I do not need the student council fee on top of all of that. Maybe I am just being irrational, but I do not believe they needed to implement this new rule. If I am going to put forth so much academic service, I believe they are the ones debted to us, not us to them, because without us, there would not be a student council, and they want to kick members out by Christmas if they have not paid their fees. Now THAT is ridiculous. Does anyone agree with me on this topic?  Read More »

..The result of the woes of Model United Nations.

Well, I just got back from Model United Nations yesterday. It was interesting, but I did not really enjoy it much.

I absolutely love Youth Legislature and Mock Trial, but Model UN does not really do much for me. The debate was timed less because there was so many delegates, therefore people could not get across what they wanted to say in debate. There were many good resolutions, but there were also many poor ones.  Read More »

Thong Girl Three--What Gallatin is famous for. Why Don Wright should never be governor again.

Gallatin is mainly famous for nationally for the implementation of Thong Girl 3, which many of you might have heard of due to Jay Leno or Good Morning America.

I attended the City Council Forum last week, where the current Governor Don Wright, was debating with a candidate, Johann Graves. If I was eighteen and able to vote, I'd definitely vote for Graves. The whole time I was looking at Don Wright, I could not help but think of Thong Girl three, a major distraction.  Read More »

The woes of Model United Nations..

Well, I leave tomorrow at 9:30 AM for Model United Nations. I am a little excited, but at the same time, I am not ready. My partner and I have had to do everything, and research like crazy. One of the partners in our group (There is normally a group of three), was expelled a few weeks ago for having various things in her purse. Well, she was acquitted of the charges and came back to school, and now she has no idea what our proposal is about. Ughhh! I like Youth Legislature and Mock Trial a TON better than Model United Nations. I felt a lot more at ease with the people and how it worked, because I have been doing Youth in Government since ninth grade ,and I really like it, but this is my first year doing Model United Nations, I have done Mock Trial and Youth Legislature since ninth grade. It is not that I dislike it, but having to juggle all the extracurricular activities, advanced placement courses, all school in itself, and work, plus being a senior and trying to get out for all these scholarships, it is really hard. I am not whining in the least, I just want to have a good future for myself, and get the best possible education I can, and be all I can be. College is a scary thought, but I know I can do it. I want to be one of the best, and implement a good future for myself. Model United Nations will be fun, I cannot wait until it happens, and to listen to all the debate of everything going on. Wish me luck and hope my proposal gets passed! Thanks for reading!  Read More »

Growing up..I miss being a kid.

Tagged:

I really cannot believe how fast I am growing up..it seems only yesterday I was playing Capture the Flag with my friends at Project Play. Now all of them are gone, off to college. And where am I. A Senior..about to graduate with the class of 2007. I miss being a kid. I miss being able to go through life without a worry in the world. And now it seems that every day a new worry comes up that I have to address. It just is so discouraging. I am going to be going to college next year. I am scared. I am really, really scared. I know that every single one of you on here can relate. You can remember your first mud pie, or the first time you went to the circus, or the countless times you played at the park with your friends and fed the cute ducks at the lake.  Read More »

Command Economy vs. Market Economy.

In my Economics class, we are discussing traditional, command, and market economies. Some say, "Well, it would be much better if we switched from Market to Command." All in all, there are many advantages and disadvantages to this. A command economy limits the personal freedom and individuality of a person, and the central government answers all the economic questions offered. Laissez-faire is predominant in a market economy, which has little government interference. Although we would like to think that we live in a laissez-faire based economy, this is not true at all. Whether we realize it or not, the government invades everything, whether it be social, economic, or political, every day. Would socialism be an effective idea? Well, everyone would be treated the same, right? The one thing that America thrives on is competition. If we had a socialist economy, there would be no competition. Workers with the same skills and responsibilities, whether it be more or less experienced, would receive the exact same pay. Is this fair? No, it is not fair. So, what do you all think? I have talked with many about this, and some say we would be better off in a socialist economy, but would you be willing to give up your freedom? I know that I would not be willing to give it up. Thanks for reading!

Drug use..Should marijuana be legalized?

Tagged:  •

Some people in conjunction with legalizing marijuana are actual experimenters of the drug. Most think that it would be horrible to legalize marijuana...but honestly, I've been thinking about it. What if it were legalized? Would people stop doing the "hardcore" drugs? We can never know, because it will be a lonngggg way if marijuana ever does get legalized. What if they did it ins mall amounts so that you couldn't take it in public, but have it in the comfort of your home..? I'm not sure how the police would respond to this, or if drug use would decrease because the "excitement" of smoking marijuana would go away since the adrenaline of it being illegal is gone.  Read More »

The E Club.

Tagged:  •

The E Club stands for the Environmental Club. I helped a couple of friends start this club last semester, and it has been an amazing turn out from other students in the school.

Well, someone asked me the other day, "Do you think this is solving the world's problems? Is that what you're out to do? Trust me, it's only affecting this school and you're not helping the world."  Read More »
