One of the questions I am most often asked on the campus of the University of South Florida: "What are you?"

America's Greatest Guilty Pleasures

Everyone has guilty pleasures. Mine happen to be singing in the shower while using my hand as a microphone, listening to old-school country, watching reality tv like Big Brother or The Real World, being excited when a friend gets sick so I can help them and gossiping.

The Most Dangerous Word Consists of Three Letters: S, E and X

If you've done it, I'm sure you remember your first time. If you haven't, I'm sure you know why you're waiting or why you don't want to. I can even guarantee that your parents or school or friends or even mere acquaintances have talked about it.

It's interesting how one sermon can change your view on the church. I'm not a particularly religious person myself, but I do have a sense of spirituality and can understand why people would be drawn to a religious life. Churches provide a place for people to seek reconfirmation of their own beliefs, friendships and some guidance. I work at a church, and honestly it is one of my favorite jobs.

For Better, For Worse: Why Marry?

Tagged:  •    •    •    •

Lately it has become apparent to me that there are so many different forms of relationships. You can be friends, acquaintances, friends with benefits, one-night stands, boyfriend/girlfriend, casually dating, coworkers, husband/wife and so many more. There are also different sects of those categories and they more often than not overlap. I, for example, have grown up a bit in the last few months.

College Shootings: A problem of Gun Control or Mental Disturbances

There comes a point where you become desensitized to violence. With a long war going on and intense coverage of deaths, who would be surprised that the majority of teens are absolutely unfazed by killings. However, there is a point where this hits close to home. I was a student of a Virginia high school, as is my little brother, and my youngest brother will be at that point in a few more years.

Voter Apathy: An American Epidemic

Apathy is defined by Merriam-Webster's online dictionary as a "lack of interest or concern." People can be apathetic about many things. Personally, I’m apathetic about video games. I could care less about what trigger buttons do what thing, and when people talk about video games, I have a tendency to zone out. Don't get me wrong, I can tolerate them, but it's more of a personal preference.
