To start off, this isn't a political blog. Sure it is discussing the current president, but I will not be discussing any current issues or hot topics relating to anything he has done so far in his presidency. I will mention a few things that touch on some politics, but I never will give my opinion one way or another on the certain subject. I'll save that for another blog on another date. However, I do think President Obama is doing something real well thus far in his term: reaching out to the ever important 18-49 demographic.
President Obama is one of the younger presidents we've had in the past few decades, and in being younger, he realizes that he needs to be able to communicate to America as a whole. I'm not saying that Presidents Clinton or either Bush were horrible at reaching the younger generations, but President Obama has done some innovative things that have astounded and amazed me.
First, let's take a look back at his campaign in 2008. Unlike some of the other candidates, President Obama really tried to get my generation out to vote. To do this, he filmed a weekly YouTube video to speak to younger voters about his views and to try and broaden his reach. Second, with the use of Facebook and MySpace, he was able to show younger voters he can adapt and work with people my age as well as showing that our opinions do matter - not just the older adults or political figures that have been around for decades.
President Obama still updates on YouTube. By being able to reach to the masses, President Obama has been able to receive the word from all ages and able to do things that presidents of the past didn't really do. Whether or not you agree with his politics, it can be assured that President Obama is at least able to listen to the United States as a whole, as he values the input of everyone. With his use of YouTube, he is able to address the citizens of the U.S. who might not watch the nightly news and he frequents late night programs and other venues that help address the current youth of America, which has proven to be beneficial to him and his cabinet.
