Excited! Will take any Advice/Help :]

So I'm gonna start my Freshmen year in college this upcoming Spring of 2010! I will be attending Sacramento City College and studying Liberals for Elementary Teachers. I am hoping to transfer to a University after completion of my Junior college. I am looking for any advice, suggestions, plans, resources that would help me with my schooling. I'm super excited. My tuition and classes are paid for, thanks to the BOGW fee waiver. But this is just a two-year college. I'm not too sure if I'm ready financially for a transfer to a University. As far as scholarships, I haven't done any yet. As far as a part-time job, I don't have one. I guess I'm living in the moment, but when school starts, be sure to see me at the Counselors office a lot! I need all the help I can get. I've been told that I should start now at applying for Scholarships and working. I know I should, but I do not know of any good resources at the moment. I am also wondering how the funds of a scholarship works. Do we get to use the money for a vehicle or a computer as long as we use them for educational purposes? I'm just spit-balling here, so your advice and help would be greatly appreciated. Oh and new friends on here, I'm new at this site so don't be shy, let's talk about anything! School, life, trials, struggles, I'm all ears. :] Where are you folks attending? What are any financial advice you may have for me? What are you studying? Please feel free to leave me a message or a blog that would help with my situation. After all, we do have something in common...our educational goals! Thanks, and have a great day!

1) No, generally you cannot use scholarship funds for a car or computer. You can use them towards anything that your school bills for. Otherwise, you have to pay taxes on them as income.

2) Getting a part-time job is important. So is learning to budget. So many people don't know how to budget, and then freak out when they suddenly can't pay their bills with a real job. Make a written budget each month of everything... from travel expenses (gas, car maintenance, etc) to food (go out much?) to any entertainment expenses you have (go to the movies?).

3) A good place to start with scholarships is just to find a scholarship search engine. There are dozens on the web, and while you will have to wade through a ton of ones that don't apply to you, it'll certainly help in the long run.
