Hello progressiveu bloggers! Its been awhile! Sorry, I have been very busy with school, work and volunteering.
This blog is about a current research topic that I am exploring. I have chosen to do this topic for my beginner research class and I am still very much in the beginning stages of the research. Although I have read peer reviewed journals that have already researched this topic, I would like your opinions! I will not use any of this in my paper, nor will it affect any personal biases or views. I am simply neutral about it and would like to see what the general views are.
Research Question:
How do social workers' friends, families, fellow students and society in general feel about social work and social workers?
I thought when I began the process that I was going to find a lot of negative views, but so far most have been positive. Have any of you ever come into contact with social workers?? Have they been rude or disrespectful to you?? How did they do their job? What is your general views on social work and social workers?
For those of you who do not know what social workers are, they are, in laymans terms, national (and more recently international) helpers. Their goals are (supposed to be) to help out mankind in any way possible, and try to help change others' lives for the better through empowerment and guidance. They work with all kinds of people, but most often with disenfranchised individuals; people who come from poverty and economic stress, domestic abuse, sexual abuse, physical abuse, emotional abuse, with health issues such as disabilities, with emotional issues, with addictions and so on. That is simply just a quick overview of what they do in case you didn't know.
