bloody Christopher Columbus!! literally

Thus is the day people ask me every year, "Why don't you celebrate Columbus day?" Hmm let's see huh. He enslaved the very tribes that helped him, he brought diseases that obliverated tribes, killed, murdered, raped and otherwise brought about total misery to indigenous tribes. Why you ask?
Yes. I know people are going to say but that was so long ago. Why do you still hold a grudge? Ok. Take this into perspective. Would you tell that to a Jew? Only reason people don't care about indigenous peoples is because we only compromise about 1% of the United States population. Rather pitiful when our numbers were much more that.
I for one have never beheld the special occurance of Columbus day. If anyone has a rational reason why America celebrates it, tell me. My tribe never honored it as a holiday, it was a day to remind us of struggles that many tribes across North America have endured.
Whenever this day comes around, I think of a wonderful book. The title escapes me at the moment but it is very sad story. It tells of the days Columbus "explored" and of the Native Americans he brought back with him to Spain. These individuals were treated like less then animals. Shown as trophies and even more sickenly, placed on a small island in the middle of the city to let the townspeople see real wild savages. These people were exhibited like animals in the zoo. Put in "their native habitat" to show their savage ways. More personally was the accounts from European men of our Native women. Absolutely dishonored and for a pretty nickel you could have your "encounter" with these almost beautiful women.
Scars that I never wish closed. I hold them to me to realize the true nature of European culture.
