When I took speech in college, I had to watch Al Gore's film and write a film review. Although the film was kind of long but it was not boring. In Al Gore’s film, An Inconvenient Truth, the message was to explain the facts of global warming and to prevent the arguments that the dangers of global warming have reached the level of crisis. Al Gore got his message across using rhetoric by showing his audience visual images of the earth and sun graphs showing global warming, memories from his experiences and knowledge of global warming from his college professor. He did it by lecturing a huge crowd of audience using strong voice and enthusiasm containing strong words and examples to prove and persuade that global warming creates disasters in the world. He wants to explain all the facts and arguments of global warming very clearly such as in a detail way of speaking to his audience so they could hear and understand him. In his message, he is also trying to persuade the people on Earth prevent global warming from happening.
The director use visuals to convey the message by showing the audience many visual images to back up that global warming have effected not only in the United States but also in many different areas of the world. Horrible things happen for a reason like global warming for example. The images of the earth cover by the sun stood out the most in my mind. These images stood out the most in my mind because by observing the Earth closely, it is as if I can image or even feel the sun coming towards the Earth creating global warming around us and like the end of the world. It is also like seeing the world falling apart full of disasters to people’s lives due to global warming such as buildings burning down and destroying everything and everyone on Earth.
My over-all visceral feeling after seeing this film was that it made me feel sad for the people who died and buildings burned down du to global warming and that we are the cause of global warming. People and nature mainly cause global warming by using old technology and people’s old habits that causes air pollution. As carbon dioxide rises the temperature also raises so that means it is going to get warmer. Al Gore presented various examples of how and where global warming took place in order to back up his message. He showed graphs that show an increase of temperature due to global warming mostly in the year 2005 causing many changes like people dying and many areas of the Earth changing. These graphs show that global warming took place in the United States, China, Antarctica, India and many other places in the world for a long period. These graphs show a fact that global warming happened many years before and still happening today.
Al Gore also shows visual images of glaciers melting down from the North Poe affecting the water we drink. It also affected the weather making the seasons change very fast that’s why in the North and other places , ice have been melted and water have been dried out. It is terrible for humans and animals to survive. There is also more precipitation, which means that it would create floods in several areas of the world and hurricanes like Katrina. Even the map of the Earth would have to be redrawn lakes, glaciers, land and oceans have changed.
This film did made me become actively involved because it told the truth about the chaos of nature and human’s environment and old technology creates a harmful global warming. This film made me feel like I was one of the people who have suffered or died from global warming. It also made me feel that I am witnessing people die and suffer in front of my eyes. I could feel the pain and sorrow of people dying and suffering from heat waves, hurricanes, tornadoes and floods due to global warming.
If I were the director I would have shown movie with people instead of showing cartoon characters of how global warming affecting the atmosphere around us that causes many tragic deaths and horrors in the world before talking in detail about the facts and to prevent global warming. After that, I would do the same thing like the director by showing examples where global warming occurred and led to many locations causing more chaos to people, houses, countries, lakes, ocean and the glaciers in the North Pole. I think it would be a lot easier for people to understand global warming by viewing the horrors it brings to the world instead of just talking a whole bunch of facts and the terrors that it brings to the world.
If we only have 10 years to begin to reverse global warming, my step-by-step recommendation would be warning everyone in the world to stop using too much water and energy as well as stop polluting the world. I would tell everyone to stop littering and help clean up all the garbage they have dump or haven’t dump in the world to stop the pollution. Giving advice to everyone in the world to use florescent light bulbs to save more money and energy as well as telling them to save gas in order to prevent air pollution. I would also advice them do not destroy the forest to build more buildings and more woods so we could stop damaging the nature and creating air pollution and fire in the forest, which creates global warming. Lastly, I would tell everyone to stick together in the plan to end global warming by creating more advance technology instead of using old technology to help the world against global warming. I think more can be done if we work together to come up with a good plan to fix the world in order to end global warming in only ten years.
