I have learned that appreciation and respect go a long way in life. I enjoy smiling and some people take that as me being a really happy person, which I am, but I smile for other reasons as well. I smile to get others to smile back. I smile to hopefully brighten somebody else's day. I smile to show my appreciation for the sunshine. It sounds a little korny and maybe even quacky but I reallly enjoy smiling, it is my form of releasing stress in a healthy manner.
Usually I don't get many smiles back, or hellos or whatever of the like. But today, I had a professor stop and ask me why I was so happy at 7:00 am in the morning (cleaning floors). I couldn't explain, I simply responded by saying that I was thankful for the sun shining and grateful to be happy and healthy. He paused for a long moment and flashed a big smile and said thank-you. He kept on his way and I couldn't help but get the goosebumps. For some reason that moment of simple recognition really moved me. I loved it.
I think it would do us all better to take a step back and smile about our lives. No matter what we go through, it could always be worse. No matter what mountains we face, there are always bigger ones. No matter how bad it is now, the sun will shine again tomorrow.
I just thought I would share my smiling thoughts with you all and hopefully encourage some of you to smile :-)
