Movie On My Mind

Sequels these days seem to all never live up to the expectations we as movie viewers tend to have. This fact has been true for many years. For example, nobody will deny that the original Little Mermaid from Disney was a classic in many ways but as Disney pumped the proverbial “cash cow” dry, so did they drain out the magic we’d all come to love from that singing, love struck, redhead mermaid. More movies these days have all come along to do the same unfortunately. The latest one I saw that really just disappointed me was the sixth edition of the Harry Potter series.
As with many of the other movies including the first, I was majorly disappointed at how it strayed from the story line and missed many important facts. This one took it to a whole new level though. Throwing in facts such as how Luna Lovegood was the one to find Harry on the train knocked out and walked with him just lit a flame under my buns as I watched in agony. Any true Potter fan knows that it was really the loveable but seemingly depressed Tonks who’d found him and turned him over to Snape unwilling for the walk in the book. This fact was thrown in to build the distrust and hatred Harry and Snape willing had towards each other and made the fact that Harry couldn’t trust Snape even more powerful and known. By rewriting just this minor detail they’ve thrown a character relationship out of sync with where the intensity of hatred should be. I was really mad the J.K. Rowling even felt putting her name on this movie was anywhere near appropriate.
Another disappointing factor had to be the lack of action towards the end. As anyone who’s watched a Harry Potter film will tell you, the movie is very, very, VERY long and normally full of drama with a bit of magic in between. Nothing really worth all the drama though. It is never until the end where the climax of the story really builds and you can feel the power behind every spell cast. In this story however, the director expect us to believe, Harry Potter stood by and let Dumbledore die without so much of a fight afterwards? They would also have us to believe that Death Eaters can just walk out of a school full of witches and wizards that is also being protected by Aurors (really powerful witches and wizards in a security role) making n uproar that they’re there and they’ve killed one of the most beloved wizards in the wizarding world with no resistance? I was severely disappointed…and almost demanded my money back.
Even the acting towards the end almost made me hurl up my popcorn. I mean if you just saw a person who you loved die in front of your eyes at the hands of your mortal enemy and you chase him down, all you’re going to do is stand there, look stupid, and half-heartedly do a spell? It’s just not real (no slick comments). You’re going to be so pumped full of adrenaline that I feel Harry should have never let them even get out of the castle especially if they were walking out. It’s not as if there people holding Harry back asking what was going on (reference to the book for those who couldn’t catch it).
Overall this movie was a disgrace to the Potter series and is making me question whether it is even worth the money I’d be spending to buy the movie in stores. To the producers, I’d have to ask you to resign and get someone with true vision to work on the last one. If it is anything like this one, I can guarantee the true death of the Potter series and a riot from all the true Potter fans that’ve been looking forward to this movie from the day J.K. Rowling released the book. To the true fans, I implore you, make it known how bad the last movie was and that we expect for Harry Potter’s movie name to go out with a bang. Finally, to the moviegoers to lazy to read the book or just wanted to see the whole series of Harry Potter, don’t go see the last one till you hear from a true fan that it is appropriate to see. I’d rather if the last movie was to be a crash and burn, for the burn not to be so bad.

Frankly, I thought that the sixth movie was the best so far. True, stuff was left out and changed, but it has to be that way when adapting a book. And Rowling couldn't really refuse to give her consent at this point, could she? I'm pretty sure she signed a contract.

Some movies do not need sequels and are ruined by them. Others are so bad that a sequel prolongs the agony. But some can be successful and even good.
