I do not understand why abortion is still legal. I am 100 % against it. I don't understand how taking an innocent babies life is not murder. They try and say that the baby is not alive when the procedure is done but that is crap. That baby has a heartbeat which means it is alive. How can some people sit back and say it is not murder. I feel this way if you don't want children then take the necessary precautions not to get pregnant. Now I know some women get raped and abort their babies, but the baby is the one that ends up paying in the end not the rapist. There are other options. I mean adoption is a great option. Give the baby to somebody who really wants children and will take care of them. Why should the baby die for your mistake. There is birth control or get your tubes tied if you do not want children come on people. There is no excuse for taking an innocent life. ABORTION is murder, I do not care how many excuses you give me. God has a reason for everything. Just because you get pregnant does not necessarily mean you are supposed to be the parent maybe you are supposed to be a blessing to somebody else. I don't agree and I will never agree. They say it's a woman's right to choose whether to keep the baby or not. In most cases it was her choice to lay down unprotected and have sex. See people do not like to state the obvious. I say lets be 100% real about the situation.

Taking a baby's life is murder. But that is not what abortion is. A person becomes a baby when they are born. What abortion is the killing of an embryo or a fetus.

If "they" were to actually say that then it would be crap. But that is not what "they" say. What "they" say is that an embryo or a fetus is not the same thing as a baby and does not deserve the same legal protections as a baby.
That baby has a heartbeat which means it is alive.
(1) It is not a baby. It is an embryo or a fetus.
(2) It is possible for an embryo to be aborted without a heartbeat.
(3) Having a heartbeat is a poor definition of being alive ... a brain-dead person can still have a heart beat but I wouldn't go so far as to claim that the person who inhabited that body was still alive. To me personhood is a quality of the mind. Without a mind (ie without a functioning brain) one cannot be a person. With respect to a fetus, especially a young fetus, it has not yet time for a mind to develop and a person become realized.

Here we fully agree. Abortion is not something people because it is fun. Abortion is a method of last resort. Unfortunately a right-wing political faction has been successful in promoting "abstinence only" education and restricting access to birth control. In what I see as the height of irresponsible hypocrisy, these groups are also anti-abortion.

There never was a baby. The embryo or fetus was never born.
There are other options. I mean adoption is a great option. Give the baby to somebody who really wants children and will take care of them.
I am a supporter of adoption. But it is not for everyone. For instance, I don't think you are willing to get pregnant so you can give up your baby for adoption. But why not? That egg you ovulate each month is human life with the potential under the right circumstances to become a living person. Yet you let it die. Some women may view the embryo or fetus within their body the same way you view your egg.
Furthermore, I'm not at all convinced that increasing the supply of adoptable babies would correlate into an increase in adoptions.
This graph comes from www.childwelfare.gov it shows that the demand for adoption at about 130,000 per year at least through 2001. Furthermore, about 40% of these adoptions come through foster care adoption, ie the adoption of older children in foster care. To me this says that the supply of newborn babies is not the limiting factor in adoption.

Getting one's tubes tied is a little drastic. The surgery is invasive and while reversal is possible it is not easy. Simply because children are not desirable at this point in a woman's life doesn't mean that it will always be so. However, if the woman makes an informed choice to have herself sterilized, I would not oppose it.
I strongly agree with the idea of the use of birth control. However, as a country we have a severe problem with education on and access to responsible contraception.

Certainly innocent life is taken all the time. Every McDonald's hamburger represents an innocent life that we've taken. True ... the innocent life is that of a cow. But the reason that is OK is that for us humans, a human life is more valuable than that of a cow. Analogously, I believe that the life of human with a mind is more valuable than that of potential human life that does not yet have a mind.

No, it is not. For the reasons (not excuses) I have given you. I could just as easily tell you that restricting a person's access to safe legal abortion is tyranny no matter how many excuses you give me. But demonizing each side is not going to anyone any good.
Here's the deal. You believe that the fetus is a human life worthy of societies protection. Therefore, the rights of the fetus supersede that of the mother. I believe that the mother is more important than the fetus and her rights supersede that of the fetus. Neither one of us can possibly present conclusive evidence one way or the other. Ultimately, it is a matter of opinion. If that is so then as I see it it should be left as a matter of personal conscience. If you think abortion is immoral ... don't have one. If someone else disagrees then whatever her choice may be is the one that should matter.

Really?? What is the purpose of wisdom teeth? What is the purpose of muons? What is the purpose of billions/trillions of cubic light years of essentially empty space?

I would say once it is a baby then the father also has equal input. But of course what you meant to say was, "They say it's a woman's right to choose whether to abort the fetus or bring it to term". And I would agree with "them".

That is true. But bringing a baby into the world is a MAJOR choice. It is not one that anyone should be forced into simply because they made a stupid mistake.

It has been my experience that people don't normally disagree with the obvious. Some of the things you say are obviously true. If we are going to be "100% real" then it should be obvious that a lot of what you say isn't obviously true as well.

I agreed with most of your smack-down post but I have to take some exception with this statement.

You make it sound like we live in Africa. In America, you can walk into any Wal-Mart or any convenience store, most bars, and any drug store and buy condoms packaged in a wide variety of styles and quantities at a very reasonable price that is definitely FAR CHEAPER than an abortion. Often, you can buy them in a public bathroom with complete anonymity.
As far as education goes, the vast majority of the people who are so ill-informed that they actually need to be educated about the purpose and the responsibility for using condoms have already dropped out of school before they are old enough to take sex education. It is a cruel irony. Our education system does indeed suck and abstinence only education is a joke, but because they drop out of school, the kids who most need it don't get sex education in any flavor, abstinence or otherwise.
It shouldn't matter though because one thing the people in our society are informed about from an early age is sex. I would be very surprised if you could find more than a handful of kids in America at 6th grade or beyond who could not give a rudimentary but fairly accurate description of the purpose of a condom.
In my opinion, it is not a question of either education or availability. It is a matter of profound stupidity. The kids know what condoms are for and how to use them but they lack the mental wherewithal to slip one on or insist that their partner slip one on.
(I'm going to ignore rape and incest and what not because while it makes an interesting discussion, these circumstances account for a tiny percentage of either unwanted pregnancies or abortions.)
I support abortion primarily because I don't want these stupid people further polluting the gene pool for another generation.. I also don't want to be supporting them and their unwanted children who will likely be the next generation of profoundly stupid and irresponsible parents. Stupid people are far more likely to be a burden on taxpayers and less of them is a good thing for society. Abortion offers most of the benefits of eugenics while avoiding the bulk of the moral hazard.

Abortions are legal because the mother's right to privacy during the earlier stages of pregnancy take precedence over the potential rights of zygote, embryo or fetus growing inside of her. Like many (most?) "abortion is murder" arguments, your blog relies on the inaccurate assertion that a zygote, embryo or fetus is "person" in the same sense and with the same rights and privileges as a citizen of the United States. The Supreme Court in Roe ruled that "the word 'person,' as used in the Fourteenth Amendment, does not include the unborn." Calling a zygote, embryo or fetus a "baby" is a legal fiction that leaves your argument essentially meaningless.

Prolife Hypocrites
If the only issue that qualifies you as prolife is being anti-aborition you are not prolife you are anti-abortion. Until you start advocating for the end of poverty, the end of hunger, the end of the death penalty, and equal education and resources to eliminate poverty you are not prolife you are anti-abortion.
Those who say adoption is an alternative how many of you adopt. To those who say adoption is an option how many of you use every scientific advancement made in the era of modern medicine to have a child. To those who say they are prolife then you should advocate for realistic sex education.
If you are eating meat, drinking alcohol, smoking tobacco, and other like objects you are anti abortion not profile. If you eliminated drinking alcohol and smoking tobacco, and if you dramatically cut down on the consumption of meat their would be more than enough food to feed the world's population.
Be consistent in your position and you may garner more respect.
