Gosh, I haven't blogged in a while, but I'm going to give it a try today. Here's what has been on my mind, drop me some comments or opinions. Thanks :).
Even though it's still a commandment, people still steal. Some instances being more severe than others while some are careless and minute. But the deal is that they still are stealing. If we break it down, we've probably subconsciously stolen things like a persons pen we forgot to return or a penny we find on the street. But what about the bigger things, like actually shoplifting or perhaps the infamous dine and dash. In American culture those are seen as just a thrill but do most Americans know the truth behind them? Do they know that the person that they steal from could have the items deducted from their paycheck, or they could get in serious trouble with the company or even worse, they could be terminated.
The second of the two topics is the one I'm going to cover, the dine and dash. It's the ultimate thrill. You sit there, acting calmly and order food and eat it. One of two scenarios could be, you don't have enough cash or you just want to feel that adrenaline from leaving. But what they think is that perhaps, "oh the server will just get a slap on the wrist, nothing serious will happen". WRONG!!!
The server in most instances will be terminated, even if they are the top of the top. What the dashers don't think about is the life that the server lives. Perhaps they have a family to support, or school to pay, or even rent and food to provide. Maybe they're the only source of income that is available for they're family. And while the dashers are laughing their petty victory, the server is losing his or her job over a measly 40 bucks.
If the dashers had done the honorable thing, saying in this instance they haven't had enough money. Maybe the manager could have given them a discount or perhaps even comped the entire meal. But instead they see that leaving is the best option.
What they don't understand is that they are still robbing, that they are still thieves and that no matter how you look at it, it's against the law. And maybe the first time they can get away, but the truth is the payment is harder than it looks.
P.S. What do you think should happen to the Server, should they have to pay for the mean, or be terminated as an ultimatum?
Thanks,
Brielle
