I am a young Haitian-American woman who ranked 3rd in her high school senior class of Asbury Park High School in Asbury Park, New Jersey. To graduate out of my high school and making it to college is an accomplishment in itself to come out of Asbury Park (a place where academically, students do not succeed or even graduate). I still maintained a 3.0 GPA my freshmen year of college. I am dedicated and motivated to make my parents proud, to make them feel that their journey out of Haiti to give their children a better life was worth their fight. I am determined to be successful and reach every goal I set. My obstacle is my financial situation and I know with your help, I can overcome it, even just a little, and become the woman I always dreamed to be. I will use this money to help pay for my college tuition and books so I can continue to get a higher education. I attend Kean University and I do not receive much help from the state. If I continue to take out student loans, I will be in more than 100,000 dollars in debt. I know that nothing in life is free but my future is worth some assistance.

I don't mean to sound rude or disrespectful, however there are others such as myself that could use financial assistance going to school. I am a single mother of a 3 year old son, and in order to maintain a roof over our head, heat, water, electric I work at a bank 20 to 30 hours a week, take two classes a semester. I could complete my degree much faster if I went to school full time and wouldn't have an upset little boy who is tired of not being at home due to my very hectic work and school schedule. I feel horrible because I have little time to do things with him because when I am not working or at school, I have homework, school projects and yes house work. I have laundry, cooking and cleaning. It would make me so happy to know that I could get some grants and scholarships to help pay for my expenses so I have more precious time with my sone before he grows up and I don't realize it. I do all this so that I could provide a better life for my little boy. Any suggestions and help would be appreciated.
i dont personally know what its like to go to school, work that many hours, and doing so while raising a son. but i have 2 older sisters who are doing it right now. one sister is way too long of a story but the bottom line is her husband litterally does nothing, he makes almost less money then someone working at mc donalds and then he comes home and doesnt help at all, their house is a mess and she is hardly getting through her classes that is if she can even find the time to study. but my other sister gave birth to her baby boy 2 and a half years ago and he is the cutest little thing, she never wants to leave the house, but unfortunately she has to, and she needs to ask family members or very well trusted friends to look after him while she goes to work at the hospital and tries to fit in some clinical hours for programs she needs to enroll in. and she needs to go to school for the classes she needs, and her professor is a real dick. and its a stressful life but she is getting through school pretty fast and work and still has time to study. she has people look after her boy while she is at work and picks him up and will spend time with him before she studies. it is very difficult. and about the grants and scholorships… you can be eligible to get some financial aid if you mention around that your a single parent but it is more and more difficult as you get older. but if your also worried about the time issue. try not to worry about it. what you should do… is really just focus on finishing school as fast as possible. and if that means cutting back on some time with your son. that would be better than hardly getting time with him while also eeking and struggling through school… you just need to decide whether you want to finish school faster so you can spend more time with your son… or if you want to cram it all in and be stressed out. believe me, i have seen what this stress does to the body and mind. dont let it happen to you. focus on school so you can give your son a better life with you in it.
by the way... what are you studying anyways? :)
Whose help are you seeking? Most of the people on this site are in the same position as you. If we're not, then we're not exactly in a situation where we can just give you money.
If you looking to compete for the scholarship, we're not offering one right now, and writing a plea such as this wouldn't win you the money anyway. We want people to blog about important issues.
I am going to go back to school, and will graduate approximately $200,000 in debt, with 3 years making what'll seem like minimum wage (but I think is actually worse, if you break it down by hours) right out of school. After that, I have no idea whether or not I'll be able to pay back my loans, simply because I don't have a clue about how the system is going to work 8 years from now. Unlike you, I won't have many scholarships available to me. You, coming from a underpriviledged background, could probably make out with quite a few scholarships, just by doing a little searching.

I'm not an expert, but there is help out there. My first suggestion is to fill out a FAFSA if you haven't already. If there's one thing in the government that can work for people its that. You basically report how much money you make, unfortunately they decide how that effects how much money you can spend on your college. This is called your EFC or expected family contribution so the lower your EFC the higher the Pell Grant you could get--which is great for those of us that want to avoid loans as much as possible. The other nice thing about the FAFSA is it makes you eligible for a lot of other scholarships from people other than the government often from your school. Good luck with the money idea...but some how it will all work out :)
I'm past undergrad. There isn't many options for funding beyond undergrad, and the FAFSA pretty much only qualifies you for federal loans. Trust me, I'll max those out.

...and working your way though school? That's what I did. My job didn't pay everything, but it went a log way.
I also had a question about when you said...
If I continue to take out student loans...
I hope I'm misreading this, because if you are qualifying for student loans but would rather ask strangers to give you money just so you won't incur the debt yourself, I think that's pretty despicable.
